Not ready to pick yet. Saw some great passes from both QBs and some flat out terrible ones. I do like Newton's athleticism, but what good are the tools if you can't use them well and do so consistently?
To back up my point, Newton started the night with 38 rushing yards, 7-8 passing, 83 yards and 2 TDs in the first 18 minutes. For the remaining 32 minutes he had 31 rushing yards, 4-11 passing, 53 yards and 0 TDs. The only thing that is semi consistent thus far is his ability to use his legs. Eventually defenses will key into that and put a stop to him.
Its hard to make a similar comparison for Simms since we have yet to play a respectable defense.
I look for a QB who is a leader, is consistent, handles pressure well, and is able to manage the offense and make sure his guys are lined up properly and ready to execute the play.
It may turn out that Newton does that better than Simms, but I'm going to reserve judgment until tomorrow night to decide who I like best right now.
