Lol yeah a little.
I still think if you brought him up in the AAU circuit and gave him today's supplements workout regime and everything, he'd still be a 28 and 15 guy or close to it.
Probably pretty close on the rebounding, but the talent pool is thicker and there are fewer rebound opportunities (FG% is a lot higher today). Scoring would be a function of how much he shot. I think a majority of the league could average 28 as long they are taking 20+ shots per game.
Hines do you like looking at five man unit stuff much? Or do you look more at individual player efficiency and such?
Not sure what you mean by 5-unit. Is that a particular metric? Are you referring to how mix and matches of guys work together?
I look at individuals and basically the sum of individuals will tell you what to expect from the team. It's pretty crazy how closely it predicts results. So they'll take how many wins were produced by the 12 man roster based on their stats and tell you within a few games how many wins they had.
I know there can be distinct differences in +/- and more advanced stats like offensive/defensive efficiency when different 5 man units are on the floor... sees how certain people play together, i guess. Just didn't know if you enjoyed that realm.
I hardly ever look at them and it certainly isn't regularly. I hear mentions on podcasts and see mentions on twitter... was a mention recently about how Howard/Asik will exist on offense together. But I don't know exactly where they are coming from. Next time I see the mention on twitter i'll ask.
Points per 100 possessions is a great stat. Points per game doesn't mean anything. It's all about pace. D'Antoni was getting slammed in NYC for how many points he was giving up, but it's because they play up-tempo. His last year they were one of the best defensive teams in terms of points per possession.
The flip side is that guys like Thibs will tend to have overrated D (though still really good) because they limit the number of possessions with their slow-pace, thus decreasing PPG.
You can watch a game, hear commentary on the game and be convinced of things that didn't happen. It explains why people think Iverson carried his team to the finals when he couldn't shoot to save his life in the ECSF and ECF.
