Advanced Metrics Nonsense

Pablo probably can't give you 30 good minutes. He's giving the Knicks 18 very good minutes.

It's funny that they were winning with Brewer, he leaves, they start losing, then he's the butt of jokes.

Pablo shooting a TS% of .717 right now, 50% from 3 point, has a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio and more steals than turnovers...and he's the butt of jokes.

If he got the defensive attention Melo, and JR get would he still have those numbers?

Do you care what players would do in an alternate universe or do you care what they do in reality?

Yeah, a steal every 18 minutes. Pretty freaking good.

His assist numbers are low because the Knicks offense is all about iso...Kidd's assist numbers were way down last year, too (3.3 apg in 27 mpg).

In reality it matters what role the player has minutes, teammates, whether or not he's the focal point of the offense, what he's asked to do in the offense.

It is really good, but its still just one a game.

They do run a ton of isos, way too much IMO, but a part of Kidd's numbers were age too.

That can't be quantified by numbers, so that stuff doesn't matter.

Unless it's Peyton. :)

Right. All of that matters. What is your point? I have said that Pablo is a good player. You mocked that sentiment. I showed you that he plays well when he plays. Now you are talking about what if he faced the opposition's best D?

What does this have to do with his contribution to the Knicks? He's playing his role to perfection. They ask him to step up and make the open shot and he's doing it as well as anybody in the league right now (short season, but he shot 40% from 3 last year). Most teams would kill for this kind of productivity from a backup.

The samples in football are too small. Can't get scientific with them. They're fun to look at and try to draw some conclusions, but they aren't convincing like in hoops.

Korver shooting 58% from 3 when it's a catch and shoot.

That's the equivalent of shooting 87% from 2.

Korver should be good at the one thing that keeps him in the league, he also averages 3.9 rebs 2.6asts 1.1sts 1.5 tos, and still can't guard my grandma or beat her off the dribble. Lol

I think Korver is a good defender. Weird.

He's not just good at shooting, he's amazing.

Stat o' the day: Nobody has averaged 12 apg since John Stockton and he did it 8 years in a row.

I see Korver on TV twice a week and I think he's a good defender too. You can tell he used to play for Tom Thibodeau. He's a paragon of the old adage that defense is mostly about effort.

When he played for the Jazz (I got to see a lot of him then) I thought he was a good defender, but I agree he has improved as well. The reasons I think he's a good defender:

- he passes my eyeball test
- coaches don't shy from giving him tough assignments
- objectively, he is a very good defensive rebounder and shot blocker for his position. He's average with steals and fouls compared to other swings.

I think people see a white 3 point specialist and assume he can't play D (not saying Jerry did in this case, just speaking in general terms).

You know I have to always mess with you over Korver. Truth be told I think he's a pretty solid player. Plus you've never seen my grandma ball, she's a beast. Lol

Is Korver's streak still alive?

Yes. I think it's at 95 games. He shot something like 8 out of 10 from three the other night. I've been watching the NBA since the 70s and I've never seen anything quite like him.

He gave a nice interview after breaking the streak the other night. He said something along the lines of, "This is a team streak, not an individual one. I can't create all those shots."
