Adidas Contract and Dave Hart

you really think his first major decision as AD is not going to happen until 2015?

I was thinking the contract ended sooner than that, but was unsure, hence the request for input in when the contract actually ended.

no we just resigned in 2010. Adidas treats UT much better than Nike would. We get more money/attention and control over the designs.

I phrased my search differently. My Google kung-fu is weak.

So now the question becomes...What's Hart first major decision going to be?

I like our jerseys now. Only thing I think would be cool would be an Orange helmet with a White T just to change it up.

Or a helmet with the davy crockey TN logo on it

Disclaimer: I have no problem with Adidas, and I think the changes that Dooley mandated with the uniforms really put them over the top this year.

Disclaimer: I do not like every Nike Pro Combat uniform that they trot out.

Disclaimer: I do not think we should sign a contract where we don't have control over the way our uniforms are designed or sign a contract that does not benefit the university.

Now, all that being said, here's why I'm curious about our Adidas contract and when it ends. I know it's been discussed before, but I don't recall the date and can't find anything from a solid source.

If all three of our coaches stick for an extended period of time (which I expect all to do with Martin being the only concern) the negotiation of this contract could be Hart's first major decision at UT.

His last two stops have been Nike schools, so I wonder if he'll be inclined to give them a look first to see if they still view Tennessee as a 2nd tier program. I'm all for something different every now and again, but it needs to fit the Tennessee look and the AD needs to have control over the uniforms in my opinion.

Would love for DeerPark to weigh in on this one as he probably has a solid date for when the contract is up for negotiation.

We are in the second year of a five-year extension.

Adidas has a six-month exclusive negotiation period during year four and the right to match any offer made after that.

Our contract with Adidas is currently worth more per year than all but two Nike contracts and is third among Adidas schools, though we're in the same general area as their other top-tier schools (Nebraska, Notre Dame, UCLA, Texas A&M), with Michigan being their top school money-wise.

I honestly hope he does switch us to Nike... Nike gear is such a higher quality, and overall better product than adidas will ever make for football... Adidas is a soccer company 1st... Nike was a track company first, but has pretty much changed completely to football now, with basketball 2nd.... Nike is taking over and there is no doubt about it. Not to mention Adidas makes the crappiest fan gear.. I could type in Oregon-Nike, Florida-Nike, any team really with Nike and find more gear and fan wear than imagineable.. Adidas... Not so much.. We need to get out of this old adidas thing and get in with the now. Nike...

Lol, Nike has never made any statement inferring we're 2nd tier. So that is absolutely ridiculous.

That's not true. Nike has twice offered us a contract as a "Second-tier school" which has various contractual implications including less money, limited products for non-revenue sports, and moat importantly, near-complete design control for Nike. A third time, Nike declined to submit a bid for our apparel contract. It's pretty clear where Nike puts us.

You realize that Adidas owns reebok and provides the majority of NFL apparel

Just to show you how much Adida's appreciates its clients...Adida's schools like Tennessee and Michigan and Notre Dame and Nebraska have their OWN reps while all the nike schools have regional reps....I like my school being part of such a small tradition rich group.

so you're ok with using Nike when they view UT as a second-tier school?

Anyone who knows anything about athletic apparel or footwear knows that Nike is years ahead of it's competition. Also, the b-ball camps that Nike invites only are huge perks. I love the swoosh! But, I may also have a dog in the fight.

Also, Nike is a huge Tennessee fan. Only problem, it's love is for Memphis where they have several facilities.

Nike takes over the NFL next year.

My point was that they don't make that bad of gear. I honestly don't care either way. UA, Nike, Adidas. Any is fine with me as long as they don't make us wear something goofy like UGA or Maryland is wearing

I don't want anything to do with a company that is pushing some of the hideous uniforms that I've seen the last few seasons.

Maryland is to Under Armour, what Oregon is to Nike.... guinea pigs! for their respect apparel companies!

They jus said the players along with the atheletic dept picked out 32 different color schemes for uniforms this season. The capts get to choose the scheme for each game. Like it or not the kids love this and it WILL eventually make its way to every uniform provider. Even our players as many have posted like it as well........ They are wearing them so who are we to judge? As long as our program gets back on track to winning and out and the main color is still Orange let the kids have their input......
