Adams article

You are exceptionally delusional if you think God had anything to do with UT winning a NC. You can say that certain players had a lot to do with it but God? Everyone knows he's a bammer fan. How else did they win 14 titles?
Up to 14 now,wow!

I agree with the column 100%.

I've said it before, if the kid's name wasn't Colquitt and his family hadn't made such a large contribution to the program through players, $$$ - he probably would be gone.

Those factors, plus that he's a starter, are what's keeping him on the team.

Kids make mistakes - most will shake it off, learn from it and mature. But not Britton Colquitt, this has happened over and over again and it's nothing more than an embarrassment to the program.

Fulmer should have came down with an iron fist on him to send a message, but he blew his chance and by doing so brought even more shame to the program.

And to think, it's only February - there's plenty of time to get in even more trouble before September.

The thing is, I don't think Fulmer is quite as soft on his team as Adams makes him out to be. Maybe Colquitt isn't officially off the team, but suspending him for half the season and yanking his scholly while maybe not as far as he should have gone, isn't exactly a slap on the wrist.
Didn't Britton start without a scolly. I don't think he has had it that long. And for sure he is in no need for financial help.

needing it and receiving it are 2 totally different things. I'd guess there have been quite a few players come through that didn't "need" it.

Yeah he always had the scholarship. And NO he definitely does not need it.

But I find it interesting that everyone has such strong opinions on Britton as a person. Does everyone calling for his head even know him? He's actually a really good guy who is extremely talented. He makes stupid mistakes sometimes yes, but kicking a kid off the team for good because of a DUI? Go ahead and try to tell me every single one of you shouldn't have a DUI in your file at some point in your youth. I personally think 5 games and taking away a scholarship is sending a message.

The person who needs to go is the coach, but of course that blasphemy can't be tolerated.

John Adams' job at the KNS is to write articles that will interest readers and allow them to sell papers which sells advertisements.

It's not to appease a fan base and be fair.

The fact that the man wrote an article that is getting play on here and all the other Tennessee message boards means it was a success.

Pennington's Georgia article was without a doubt a success in those respects.
I will never even bother to read his tripe. I won't even visit the web site. He's a complete moron.

Yeah.... Working for a school with one of the top 10 football histories in the country... is exactly working for a little podunk paper like the KNS.

If it's such a podunk little paper, then why the hell is everyone making such a big deal out of it then?

I wouldn't advocate kicking a kid off the team for a single DUI (unless he killed somebody or something), but Colquitt's had FIVE alcohol-related incidents in what, four years? I don't care if he drinks, but he's obviously being an idiot about it and hasn't learned anything. He should be gone -- and if his last name weren't Colquitt, he probably would be.

The person who needs to go is the coach, but of course that blasphemy can't be tolerated.

It's hard to call that "blasphemy" when it's such a widely held opinion.

Yeah you're probably right. But I've been friends with him since I was 6 or 7 so I have to stick up for him.

Also true. But some people will get all up in you for even mentioning it...

I tried to post this part in my first one too but it didn't go through. To your first paragraph:

That's true. But I've been friends with him since I was 6 or 7 so I have to stick up for him...

Understood. I just think it's inexcusable that a 22-year-old senior would get pulled over for his FIFTH offense during a period when the team was already getting killed for off-the-field problems. He should have figured out by now that it's perfectly possible to have a glorious, liver-punishing career as a serious drinker without getting into legal trouble; all it takes is a small amount of forethought before you throw down.

Your family's well enough off that they gave a million dollars to the university, man. Spend ten freaking bucks and call a cab.

Fulmer is a bafoon,it was the kids 4th offense,he should have been kicked off the team.Phil is more worried about Britton's daddy's money then doing the right thing.

To be fair and accurate, it's his 2nd while being a UT student athlete.

When your a drunk you don't think rationally...I use to be one.But I slowed down and figured a buzz wasn't worth the headaches. It seems to me the boy needs rehab really bad.But it'll only work if he realizes he has a problem and wants to solve it.

The key to enjoying a successful career as a drinker is to take steps beforehand to keep yourself out of situations in which the drunken, irrational brain can get you in trouble. If you're planning a big evening, don't have your car nearby. Put cash for the cab ride in your back pocket before you go out. Eat beforehand. Leave your credit cards at home, if you're one of those people who starts buying rounds for strangers. A big thing for me was learning to (mostly) leave the whiskey rounds until I get safely home, and a key to that was always stocking much better whiskey at home than I can typically get in a bar.

By the time you're 22 years old, you should be self-aware enough to know what steps you need to take ahead of time to keep yourself out of trouble. He shouldn't need rehab to teach him to simply think about what he's doing.

He stepped up to nothing. He writes with a hatred for Tenn. He should have been fired years ago.

I don't see a hatred for Tennessee. I see dissatisfaction with Fulmer. Similiar to much of the Vol fanbase. When you realize that Fulmer does not equal Tennessee, you'll see things in a completely new way.

Was he not on scholarship in 2003? Ordinarily I would agree that's an important distinction, but in this case I don't know that it matters that much. The other incidents occurred on campus. He's a Colquitt. It counts.
