NO HE SHOULDN"T NOT LISTEN TO THE FANS!I know I don't speak for all fans, but I tell you, many, many fans do not want an 'up and comer'. We do not want a learn on the job OC or DC--been there, done that. This isn't Central Florida. Vol fans want and deserve a proven winner. My opinion...others may disagree.
Also, I'm aware AD White isn't reading this post---maybe he has people do this.
I doubt he has people to do it either. You're just talking to us.
Dear Mr. White.
You're experienced and have a great track record hiring football coaches. Do whatever you think is best. It's why you make big money. Do not listen to the fans. Many won't be satisfied unless you hire Belichick.

I think his challenge to fans at the presser makes it clear that his team is aware of what is going on on standard social media and boards like this one. I am sure they can sift through the offerings and discount the malcontents messages to the world and get a good idea of what the team oriented fans are thinking.
I'll be a little more specific:Don’t get upset. Get informed.
I want the right coach. Failure has a lot of different resumes but so does success. I tend to agree but if the choice is between say Elliott and an experienced HC who wins about 30% of the time vs teams with a winning record then you aren't really giving yourself a lot of security by taking the guy who is an experienced loser. That was the facade with Jones. His record looked good but it came from beating up on terrible competition.I know I don't speak for all fans, but I tell you, many, many fans do not want an 'up and comer'. Go back to the Bammer message boardYou do realize you are in this mess because Tennessee listened to the fans...
You guys have been an unmitigated gong show since they listened to you. Coaches like it or not talk and are like a fraternity. You hired a guy, smeared his reputation like he was a rapist. You got fans who think Hugh Freeze is a good idea. Hookers, which I’m sure he used for players and himself. Middle of NCAA investigation? Let’s be clear none of these college coaches are clean. Everyone is hiring hookers, paying off players with bags full of money, players raping women, coaches don’t say anything, players beating women and coaches don’t say anything. Players committing legit crimes and have coaches on speed dial to bribe a cop to hopefully let the guy go. Teams playing teachers to give kids grades. Cheating on SAT’s. Inventing programs for players and making schedules for classes that don’t exist.
Your attempting to not pay Pruitt because of the bags full of money. What coach is gonna wanna come here knowing he is going to have to give up bags full of money in order to turn the program around, while knowing if he does they won’t pay my contract.
I'll be a little more specific:
It not only wasn't hard, it was quite simple for those programs to make those hires: it doesn't get any simpler than promoting someone from the staff. How many search firms do you think that requires? I'll give you a hint: it's a number less than 1 and equal to 0.
And to say there's more at risk is the very definition of nonsense: just as a Bentley has a more powerful motor than a beater Cadillac and will go much faster as a result, so a team littered with five-star athletes, and developed three- and four-stars, will win most games on its own, completely independent of the coaching, whereas a team with few to no five-stars and few to no developed three- and four-stars, when given a bad coach, will lose more games than it wins. Just as a new Bentley will be more mechanically sound from top to bottom than a beater Cadillac and therefore far safer for anyone from a teenager to an octogenarian to drive than said Cadillac (the choices of the driver have nothing to do with the comparative safety index of the vehicle), so a team full of top-level athletes is much harder to lose with, whether the coach is experienced or just a promoted coordinator, than one devoid of top-level athletes.
Reader's digest condensed version: you posted a bunch of specious nonsense.

As I read the comments of posters, I see so many different favorites.
I admit that I do not know a lot about all the candidates which have been mentioned, and I wonder just how much these posters actually know about them.
We have had some bad coaches, it is true. Maybe they were hired for the wrong reasons, and by the wrong people. However, I firmly believe UT has learned some hard lessons, and that Danny White is a breath of fresh air.
I hope, and I believe, we are ready to take bold, new steps toward righting the ship. I would hope all those who choose to be negative, even before a coach can be chosen, will remain silent and allow Danny White to do his job. Otherwise, we will continue to go down hill, and things will not change.
He is paid well, and has been given the tools necessary to make informed decisions based upon many factors which NO ONE on this, or other boards, have access to.
Please stop the negative comments, and the attempts to tell DW how to do his job. Realize that no matter your experience, you do not have even a portion of the information he has. That does not mean he will make the perfect choice, but it means we have a much, much better chance of a good choice, than any choice made by ANYONE on this, or other, boards.
Go Vols!
