You are most certainly wrong. If you want to make the case that it was time for Fulmer to go, fine. Although I still believe he would have done ok the next few years, but fine. When he was fired, Tennessee was still very relevant in the country. From 2003-2007 he won 3 East titles. So its not like he went on this huge slide that resulted in 3 or 4 losing seasons in a row.
So its 2008 and Fulmer was fired. There is a vacancy at the head coaching spot at a national powerhouse school in Tennessee. A school that just the year before won the East and came very close to beating the eventual national champions LSU. So what does Mike Hamilton do? He hires a guy with zero HC experience and a losing NFL record. Not only that, he allowed Kiffin to sign a contract that let him bolt if his dream job opened up. Ok.
Now we have to replace Kiffin. So what happens? Derek Dooley was hired. A guy who had a record of 17-20 at freaking Louisiana Tech. That led to the hiring of yet another mid level coach Butch Jones. And the rest is history.
You Fulmer haters can spew whatever garbage you want his firing led to what we now are experiencing.
