Academic report from GVX....

" That’s not to minimize the amount of responsibility the players have and the coaches have,...".

I know the above won't be enough, but let's say he comes out and says its all on me. What would be your reaction?

I hardly think you would give him a pass, so ultimately he was in a lose-lose situation.

A little accountability would be nice.

Accountability? From a head coach? I didnt blame my parents, room mates, friends, or professors if I messed up. The manning up should come from the student. It's damn ridiculous to blame the coach for kids not giving a damn about school. Perspective is key.

No excuses? Take the blame and don't try to dump it on new employees at the academic center? The part about how crappy last season was and it rolled over into academics is at least believable but that line had me rolling.

And he didnt dump it on them. He said I didnt understand them and they didnt understand me.

I thought he basically said that the coaches, players and support staff didn't get it done, have made changes and are doing better.

Some on here read: He threw his players under the bus and took no accountability. Add to it that they haven't addressed the issue, and we have a problem.

It's really funny.

The fact that he ever had to mention them is refusing to take accountability.

And what the heck does that even mean? They didnt understand him and he didn't understand them? Sounds like pure garbage to me.. which is what that attempt to put the blame else where was.

Any reason you're directing your hostility toward me? I was simply relaying factual information that I thought would be of interest. My mistake.

I think what we have is the fans that want Dooley to succeed reading it one way and the one's that don't reading it another way. Human nature I guess.

Youre not avoiding my question in the previous post are you?

Didn't realise I was being hostile. On another note I just quoted your post to point out that he did take responsibility. I was posting it for bassmanbruno and the poster after him. Wasnt directed at you.

What question? The part you asked about what would be considered "manning up" in this situation? I answered that.

This is part of the coaches job. It is Dooley's job to make sure that his students are on the right academic path to being eligible.

I don't think this alone is a huge deal, but more a reflection of the atmosphere that leads to mediocrity.

You know the carry over effect of a team laying down against Kentucky and going 5 and 7.

I see that as a lack of will.

He does this all the time - if he had said what you mentioned then I would be impressed.. but he has only done that 1 time since he has been here.. so it would be shocking as well. Dude is the complete opposite of Cuonzo who takes full responsibility for everything.

Dooley likes to say the coaches are to blame - but always throws in a "but statement" about how someone didn't do something right or someone else didn't do this or that. He's trying to take responsibility - but also put the blame on others at the same time.

This one.

Edit: nevermind you saw it.

Its the players job to do well in the classroom. That is like blaming a parent for their kid flunking out of college. There is no excuse for a player to have below a 2.0 considering all the extra resources the players have compared to other students.

Got it. Being objective about it, I think it's fair to be upset about the situation without attaching blame to one person. Some staffers didn't do their job well enough, some players aren't taking academics seriously enough and somebody isn't keeping the coach well-briefed. But it was an unusually stressful fall, and while that is no excuse, hopefully it was a wakeup call that will fix the problem going forward. UT is a punchline again, but the situation can be rectified and I doubt it will cost us more than a few players that wouldn't have seen much PT.

But holy crap, don't they offer Weightlifting, Introduction to Communications and Sociology 101 anymore? That's gotta be a 3.0 right there.

Unless your biggest influence there (the coaches) put zero emphasis on it.

Do you honestly believe coaches put 0 emphasis on something as important as academics?

Well, if almost half the scholarship players are on probation, then...yeah, seems like it.

Or they don't care enough to listen to their head coach.

Or maybe they are lazy and didn't put the effort in. Just like people don't put enough blame on Dooley on this site, not enough people put blame on the players. Stop treating the players like they are 12.

I totally agree.

And who should be kicking their ass to get motivated?

I have no clue about the amount of emphasis he put into academics, but the results aren't too good and we're judged by results.

Exactly.

"Well, the players aren't motivated to study."

Well, who the hell is suppose to be motivating them?
