Academic report from GVX....

Does anyone have an update on Schoefield (sic)? His grades were an issue after last semester and I am pretty sure he isn't with the football team at the moment, but can come back. He could be an academic casualty and we need him on the depth chart. More importantly, I hope he stays in school and finds a way to get his college degree if he is released from his scholarship.

The grade report yesterday was pretty terrible for our athletic department, although a 2.8 average is great for our b-ball team. 70 athletes under a 2.0 is embarrassing and something our school should address immediately.

so without reading through 8 pages - is everyone except Schoefield still eligible in the Fall at this point?

I thought Dooley was recruiting high character guys who he knew would qualify. He cut players loose this recruiting season like Crawley, who they didn't expect to qualify. I think Dooley is working to fix this problem.

Yeah, at this point. Actually, I think even Schofield is eligible right now. But he was headed off track. So Dooley was giving him time to focus on his studies.

This is the least surprising thing I've heard all year. Not sure why most every college athlete has to feel like everything is handed to them. I hate to bring up race/culture but it is disturbing to see this time of apathy for education while sports like golf/tennis in comparison to football. However that number could be skewed due to lower numbers of athletes in those sports. Some of these guys have no business being in college. They should be thankful for this once in a lifetime opportunity and make the most of it.

good to know i had high hopes for Schofield and still think he could produce at some point in his career if he can get himself back on track

He's not talking about winning an academic decathlon. He's talking about eligibility to play. Watch the NFL if you do not care about education.

Finally, after all these years, I have finally met the Internets Toughest Guy

Will you autograph a T-shirt for me?

Do I need to bring my own permanent marker?

Do you prefer fine point?

Hey Count, why don't we meet at the North end zone after we whip FL and/or BAMA this year. I will be on the crossbars and will gladly sign your shirt with blood - crimson of course. GBO

It's unfortunate that our student athletes are behaving like young people. The number who will play professional sports is low, and the rest cannot make the logical connection that they will need a back-up plan. Then again, I see the same trend in the regular college students and the majority of them don't get a scholarship.
