Academic report from GVX....

70 student-athletes below a 2.0 is bad. Really bad. I don't recall what UT's policy is for academic probation, but I would think that might be a major concern here if they don't pull their grades up this Spring.

Not saying that I care that our kids are excellent students or anything, but people who care about winning might care about this when we start hearing about starters becoming academically ineligible. Not saying we do have anyone in this category now, but with this news, it does seem a great possibility. just my .02

Exactly. At the bare minimum they have to stay eligible. But I'd also like to be able to have higher standards.

That dang peeing in the pool swim team is probably pulling us down

I would like to have higher standards as well, but honestly staying eligible is the only thing I actually care about.

70 student athletes. The article specifically said not all football players. The article also said that the team average was around 2.45. Not great, but certainly not below 2.0.

Details.

That article is a little confusing. Despite saying 70 were below 2.0, it also said the following: "Murphy did not have a specific grade-point average for the football team, but Donna Thomas, director of the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center, said it was below a 2.45. No sports team fell below a 2.0 grade-point average, she said."

So which is it? Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Perhaps my gpa is lower than I thought.

It is disconcerting, since the players take a light load of cupcake classes in the fall, and they have access to tutors. They seem to have written off last fall before the season was up... on the field and, apparently, in the classroom. Hopefully, Dooley will get the morale and motivation up, which will fix a lot. But there are always going to be those who just can't cut it in the classroom-- hopefully, they are buried on the depth chart.

Freshmen also have mandatory study table assisted by advisors and mentors.

We're not doing something right. GPA and winning percentage should be inversely correlated. Losing records and poor grades is just plain stupid.

Which is why I said student-athletes, and NOT football. That is still a ton of S-A below a 2.0.
