I understand that there is frustration, but why are we aiming at this coaching staff? I am thankful that we could get someone like Dooley that could not only have the balls to take this job when many people looked at it and laughed knowing the situation UT was it but also taking on a job where he had to take on the task of changing a culture full of thugs and the loser mentality. This isn't going into a thread about recruiting character so don't come up with a smart comment about that. However, we are going to blame him?

Then I see those who want to laugh at his 17-20 record at LA. Tech and point to that as a reason why he is a terrible coach. Coach Chizik was awful at Iowa St. too. However, I'm not going to make that comparison either. Can you tell me how much time Dooley had to put into LA. Tech? After all, he was their AD too! I talked to people in Louisiana, and they said Dooley wasn't even at the practices at least 1 day every week. A coach is defined by his assistant coaches, and we have a great coaching staff. We have one of the best WR coaches from the NFL, one of the best O-line coaches from the NFL, Dooley has an NFL background in coaching TEs, and Chaney has an impressive college and NFL resume. On the defensive side of the ball, we have Coach Smith who is a great defensive line coach, Coach Thompson who is a great LBs coach, and Coach Wilcox who has a brilliant defensive mind.

We see the potential of this coaching staff, when they have kept this young team with no depth in each first half vs. Florida, Oregon, and Alabama. You may laugh at the idea of seeing the positive out of that. But do you really think it's a coincidence that this team folds in 2nd half? A team that is young, has no depth, and is undersized and not as athletic as the aforementioned teams? Do you think we are going to have the same problem when we can rotate SEC caliber DTs anytime we want to instead of 260 lb. walk on freshmen?

Get a grip guys. This season was going to be tough no matter who was coaching. However, we have a coach that had the balls to come here when no one else would touch it. We have a coach that will turn this thing around, and we have a coach that will never turn his back on Tennessee and instead create his own legacy. We have the pieces in place to build this into something special when all of these talented freshman continue developing their bodies and talent.

Quit whining and take the lumps that everyone knew was coming!

I agree. And guess what...we're not going to be that much better next year. This is AT LEAST two years to turn this wreck around. The coaches deserve our support and patience. Nobody could make us a contending team in less than 2-3 years.

The original post is spot on. Those who criticize Dooley rely on the flawed logic that any 85 Tennessee players must be as good as any 85 Florida or Alabama players at any time and, therefore, losses must be due to the coaches.

All you have to do is look down at Florida to see confirmation of the principle that you should save the word "genius" for the likes of Einstein and Bach. With Tebow and Harvin and Spikes, et al everyone thought Meyer was a genius. Those guys leave, he plays a lot of true freshmen, and he's 4-3.

Success is a combination of talent, depth, experience, and process. No matter how good Dooley's process is, and it seems to be good, there is no magic wand in college football for the first three.

Disagree with that. Schedule is easier, and we will have more depth by adding a JUCO DT in Couch, Walls coming back, better LBs with King, Lathers, and Johnson... experience at both CB positions and very talented corners in Teague and Gordon. Both have the potential to be lockdown corners. Then on the offensive side Heistand gets to work with an O-line that has went through their 2nd year of Wylie and a year under their belt. The line IMO was much improved tonight. Hiestand is a great OL coach. Then at WR, we will have very very good ones and good depth there as well. We will have much better depth next year, better talent overall, and more experience. You couple that with a easier schedule, and I personally think we win 8 next year.

Man, I got a great laugh out of this one.

I'm going to post this as many times as I can on every thread concerning our football program...Look at the roster. We are depleated, thin, short on quality D-1 players. Think people, talent trumps coaching. Fulmer got away with it for a decade...

What worries alot are fundamentals and basic formations and rules of the game. I understand it's a young thin inexperienced team but these should be issues you overcome as a sophomore in high school, not in a rival SEC game.

For the most part i do as well. Honestly the last thing this program needs right now is another coaching transition. Just worries me a bit, hopefully this will be ironed out with more experience with players and coaches alike.

Actually, fundamental and basics are a forgotten art now. Watch the NFL. A lot of Crompton's early season troubles last year was the WRs were not lining up right, were running a route 2-3 yards shorter than supposed to, etc... and it threw off timing. Fundamentals such as tackling is almost nonexistent today when they get to college.
