I understand that there is frustration, but why are we aiming at this coaching staff? I am thankful that we could get someone like Dooley that could not only have the balls to take this job when many people looked at it and laughed knowing the situation UT was it but also taking on a job where he had to take on the task of changing a culture full of thugs and the loser mentality. This isn't going into a thread about recruiting character so don't come up with a smart comment about that. However, we are going to blame him?
Then I see those who want to laugh at his 17-20 record at LA. Tech and point to that as a reason why he is a terrible coach. Coach Chizik was awful at Iowa St. too. However, I'm not going to make that comparison either. Can you tell me how much time Dooley had to put into LA. Tech? After all, he was their AD too! I talked to people in Louisiana, and they said Dooley wasn't even at the practices at least 1 day every week. A coach is defined by his assistant coaches, and we have a great coaching staff. We have one of the best WR coaches from the NFL, one of the best O-line coaches from the NFL, Dooley has an NFL background in coaching TEs, and Chaney has an impressive college and NFL resume. On the defensive side of the ball, we have Coach Smith who is a great defensive line coach, Coach Thompson who is a great LBs coach, and Coach Wilcox who has a brilliant defensive mind.
We see the potential of this coaching staff, when they have kept this young team with no depth in each first half vs. Florida, Oregon, and Alabama. You may laugh at the idea of seeing the positive out of that. But do you really think it's a coincidence that this team folds in 2nd half? A team that is young, has no depth, and is undersized and not as athletic as the aforementioned teams? Do you think we are going to have the same problem when we can rotate SEC caliber DTs anytime we want to instead of 260 lb. walk on freshmen?
Get a grip guys. This season was going to be tough no matter who was coaching. However, we have a coach that had the balls to come here when no one else would touch it. We have a coach that will turn this thing around, and we have a coach that will never turn his back on Tennessee and instead create his own legacy. We have the pieces in place to build this into something special when all of these talented freshman continue developing their bodies and talent.
Quit whining and take the lumps that everyone knew was coming!
