About contacting recruits

Fan is short for fanatic. Are fans serious when they paint themselves or a rock? In a way they are, but in another way they really aren't because they're having fun. College football means different things to different people. It's a great American sport, and it's supposed to be fun for fans. What's wrong with that? And what's wrong with Sabanoccio or Jmo developing skills and networks, doing things they love to do...doing things that other people value? Hey, if they can make a place for themselves and turn it into a living, I say more power to them.

What's wrong is there is a line you shouldn't cross, and Sab crossed it. It's stalking. There is no other way around it. Media doesn't go around trying to be best friends with every 17 year old recruit they talk to. And they certainly don't write love letters to recruits.

That's what satire is supposed to look like. You're saying that it looks like satire because it's not satire? Uh... And you think what he writes is nearly insane, and what I write makes no sense. Have you considered the possibility that you're not the best reader ever? I once entered a message board that was going at it over illegal immigration. So I wrote a satire about moving the Grand Canyon to keep the Mexicans from getting it. That is so impossible that it's ridiculous, a big tell or tip that it's not serious. But I parodied the standard protocols and attitudes of others so well that every person on that board took it seriously, and several attacked me at length. Do you really think the nonesense in that letter is serious? Seriously, I doubt it. The player is not even that good, and folks on this board were practically down on their knees begging him to come here. I will say that it was foolish to write something like that about a recruit, even if it were to ridicule other posters. Seriously again, I sometimes have trouble knowing when Sabanoccio is joking or "messing" as he calls it. But I've found him to be one of the most sensible people here. The guy has never liked me, so I have no reason to say that other than simple honesty. Hey, I could be totally wrong, so TIFWIW.
Finally....a sensible and logical post. I understand the passion on the topic, but it was time for a clear head to interject. Bottom line is that we are all recruiting junkies and want information. We just all have to be careful that we don't get so caught up in it that we cross the line

I'm not blessed to know any of you guys personally. But I think you're making some serious allegations out of your own negative reactions and assumptions. To me, it looks like the stalking allegation is a crock; the best friends insinuation is bull, and the love letter misreading is more of it. In America, that's called communicating, networking, and creating. I get mail every day from companies trying to out-create some other company, friendly up and start a relationship. If Sab wants to use his talents to start a bidness, that's what he is supposed to do, as Phil was ever want to say. So why make something bad out of it? I'd suggest his being more careful, because malicious defamation is clearly a risk of that industry.

Thanks, 555. I expreciate that profusely. You're right about all of us being recruiting junkies who need to be careful to not cross the line. Personally, I wouldn't be networking recruits unless I had a business plan, which I don't so I'm not. This is the best place I know for Volunteer sports, and I'm grateful for all of the good contributors.

I Just tweeted and Facebooked a 16 yr old, Jr, up and coming softball player. I hope she responds and I'll let you know if she'll be a vol. Nothing creepy about it.

There's a ton of violations that even guys who cover recruiting for a living like myself can make...for example you can't contact a recruit while he's on a OV...honestly nothing is going to come from it... but I just find it weird for guys to be contacting kids on Facebook and trying to talk to them..I don't see anything wrong if you follow a guy on Twitter or be friends on facebook but anything past that is over the line..JMO.

Funny you should say that, because Urban Meyer contacted Nukeese Richardson when he was on an official visit, standing in front of Coach Kiffin...who got hammered for calling it cheating.

I've worked on this thread too much already. But I want to say that my comment about Sab being dumb was not at all meant as a personal insult. At the time, I considered satirizing all of the posters begging for Scroggins, but thought better of it and didn't. However, on other places and subjects, I have posted some satires that got me into more trouble than what Sab is in with some folks here. It's just the nature of the beast. Writers write. And when we want to write a satire, it's Katie bar the door. Some people appreciate it, and some people don't.

wasnt kiffin having him lie to just about everybody around him including meyer by that time anyway? maybe he didnt know he was on a visit lol

This whole argument boils down to someone being jealous of someone else's ecred, and wants a little for themselves.

So Sabanocchio is no longer a writer for Knoxvegasvols because of this?

It's been a tough time for insiders on VN lately....pretty sure jmoore is still on his hiatus and Sabanocchio will probably be on one as well here shortly.

I heard this also this morning on 1180.

I suppose this explains the magical disappearing thread this morning...

Why is jmoore on a hiatus?

He freaked out when Cody Blanc committed. Called him a waste of scholarship, a career special teamer, etc.

He was called out for making such stupid claims, as he should have been. He then claimed, in an amazing attempt at a backpedal, he was joking the whole time and was trying to act like a nega-vol -- all BS.

Bottom line -- his immature ego couldn't handle the criticism, so he left.
