Abdul Ado

The good thing is that missing on Ado now shouldn't be a huge deal. Sure, you want him because he is in-state. But Barnes has the ability to recruit other high level players elsewhere. With Tyndall, it was looking like Ado and Blackwell were all or nothing. Similar to when Butch misses an instate player- he recruits at such a high level that he will find someone elsewhere.

not sure I'm ready to accept that yet.

Lots of coaches in to see Blackwell and the Atlanta Celtics. Kevin Stallings, Avery Johnson, Shaka Smart and others all mentioned at his game. Obviously could be watching other players on the Celtics but I'd say most are very interested in Braxton.

Toni Braxton is hot!!!

So comments were made that the UT staff is not pushing probably because of some red flags on Ado. What are those red flags? I hate to see a top center prospect from TN go somewhere else.

VQ said that there are some "hoops that have to be jumped through" to even get a conversation with him or his handlers. Take that for what it's worth.

Is a foreign student living with a host family really considered TN prospect? I don't see much of a chance to have developed a TN tie vs a player who grew up in the state?

I see your point. I did not know that he was a foreign student living with a host family. I just wanted to know why UT was backing off. BTO and Stoked have kind of filled that in.

That being said, at the end of the day he goes to school in Chattanooga so wherever he ends up he'll be considered a TN prospect. I am assuming he's not played at other schools in the states.

I agree with this statement and have had this same discussion with posters...while he's not from Tennessee he will have been in East Tennessee for about 4 years by the time he enrolls in college. East Tennessee is the only place he knows outside of Nigeria, and you would think being an hour away from the only people he really knows would qualify this as a sense of home. It also provides the recruiting advantage that he can easily visit Tennessee for basketball and football games whenever he pleases, that same opportunity isn't there with other schools, on that same topic coaches can easily go see him when it's not so easy for other schools. Tennessee definitely has the home school advantages in play, will it matter, most likely not.

This topic depends on the individual recruit. Some recruits will show up in East Tennessee as a freshman and live here for 4 years and jump at the opportunity to see another part of the United States. When they learned about America in some foreign country I doubt they were thinking "I would love to visit this place called East Tennessee and stay there and not experience other parts of America!" Probably also depends heavily on his relationship he has developed, or not developed, with his host family.

Kind of how I feel too. I see both viewpoints, but IMO, he didn't come halfway around the world to settle down and be sheltered in a remote portion of the country that he had likely never heard of prior to arriving.

If anything, our lack of basketball relevance for the most part over the past 4 years will work against us. If he lived an hour from Chapel Hill, Lexington, or Durham, I could buy into that argument, but I just don't see him settling for the University of Tennessee, among his many other options, solely based on his comfort level with East Tennessee.

It's not as if Lousiville, KY is UCLA or UNLV in terms of places everyone wants to go see either though.

No, but you have a renowned coaching staff with a long, successful history of maximizing the skills of young, African post players, and putting them in a position for the NBA. And Louisville is a fresh, relevant program with a lot of tradition, as well as recent success to sell these kids on.

Agree, just speaking on the place itself, not as if Barnes doesn't have a good history with bigs.
