This thread is hilarious with all the conspiracy theories and the "NBA is footing the bill" talk. I graduated from Hamilton Heights in 2005. I played basketball there for 4 years. The Church that funds HHCA (and is right next to it) is Hickory Valley Community Church of God of Prophecy and is my home church in Chattanooga (I live in Knoxville now). The Pastor/Principle/former B-ball coach is Duke Stone, he's a great man and was the key instrument in my relationship with Christ, he married my wife and I in March of 2013.

He and his family are all 6'6 or taller and are extremely passionate about basketball. It's always been Duke's dream to be able to use it as a ministry, which he has done successfully. They have had several doors open up for them, for instance Tennessee Temple has an arrangement worked out for them where the overseas students (like Ado) can live in the dorms. The church does a lot of funding as well. I can assure you this man, with his humble home, and his humble church, and his humble 70-student school (I had 23 in my graduating class) isn't getting anything funded by the NBA or any other major corporation. Y'all make me lulz.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and believe me when I say that Senior Drill's asinine opinions represent far less than 1% of posters on this board. He is full of wild "theories", none more respectable than the next. Don't judge us all on his faults. I, for one, respect the mission of Hamilton Heights.

I'm a student at Temple. Haven't been in the dorms in a couple years though.
I'm not saying that Senior Drill is right, but his theories aren't that far out there. I'm not even talking about Hamilton Heights, necessarily, as I'm sure all you said about the church and coach is true. Before Hamilton Heights stayed in the dorms at TTU though, there was a program called Global Prep. There are programs like this across America. This program brought in sick talent from around the world to play in a Hamilton Heights type league. This is where it gets fishy. When they aren't at school, they stay with sponsors who fund everything. Now, the NBA is not going to ruin their reputation getting involved with high schoolers. However, I do believe that agents and/or coaches get involved for "favors" down the road. Think about it, you bring in a 6'10" African who can jump the roof? Probably a safe bet he can land a scholly and possibly even make it to the league. Not trying to sound racist or disrespectful. It's just the truth.

I'll put it this way. My freshman year, there was a particular guy who got recruited to a power conference school. From what I heard, the coach, however, basically had an arrangement with the college coach to hide the recruit at Temple from other coaches. I don't believe this particular player owes anyone any favors necessarily, although he still has a shot at making it to the NBA. In summary, power conference football and basketball is a business. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Well, now, Chrissy, who is the one making the a-----e comments? Not me! Just a deeper insight in most things. It's called analyzing the data. Who has said from Day 1 that Tyndall doesn't even get a slap on the wrist from the NCAA? It's now down to a 2-3 game suspension. Not much further to go. Certainly not the ones of you who criticize me because you just don't like being wrong.

Stopped reading at "Well now Chrissy". You have the maturity level of an 8-year old when it comes to your sorry attempts at debating a subject, and this is just another, in a long list of examples of you showing your ass.

95% of the regular posters on this board see right through your act. Anyone whose go-to move is feminizing a man's name as their coup de grâce isn't worth the time. Grow up. I can't believe I'm having to say that to someone who is supposedly ~25 years older than me, a military veteran, and a self-appointed "leader of men". Your ignorance and inability to objectively think have me questioning the legitimacy of any of those claims too.

Obviously, there are selfish people out there looking to cash in on these type prospects. Look no further than the recruitment of Skal Labissiere. It just isn't easy to simply hide players away anymore. The internet, advanced scouting, AAU, and more national scheduling make this extremely difficult. Not only that, but those players generally come to America for the exposure to be recruited, not to be hidden away in some podunk private high school program.

Now, if you would believe that this particular kid you mentioned was hidden away in an effort to keep people like Rick Pitino, Mike Krzyzewski, and Jim Boeheim away, then I can only believe that he didn't play AAU ball, played only local class A teams within a 10-mile radius of Chattanooga, and never played against a team with a speck of collegiate talent worth scouting by other NCAA programs. Otherwise, he'd have been discovered. Seems rather unlikely IMO, and a coach/sponsor seems to stand a better chance at cashing in on said player by exposing them, not hiding them.

Pardon me. Sort of a motivational tactic for those trainees who don't meet the standard but end up graduating with a little "toughness".Sorry if I offended your senses.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I have heard enough stories about how the the AAU and high school levels operate. You can't make blankets statements because not all situations are the same, but funding for these type things come from outside sources, with it being the shoe companies most of the time.

There are people on here who know much more than me and many others, but it is unbelievable how much influence and money the shoe companies pour into "grassroots" basketball.

You couldn't offend me on your best day. I'd have to care about your opinion to be offended by it. It's just simply amusing that a supposed grown man must retreat to those tactics when called out.

Now shoe companies meddling, I can buy that. They obviously have something to gain. The NBA funneling money though? No way. Talented kids will make in into the NBA with or without their help.

I doubt either of us is ready to imply that Nike or Adidas are throwing money at Hamilton Heights just because they have some foreign kids who happen to be highly ranked either. Is it possible though? Certainly.

This. It's why no one takes his info or opinion seriously.

The last time I heard someone talk like this was Grace Christian Academy. Small, funded by church, humble. And the players we're nearly all *******s and pricks and they were caught cheating multiple times in multiple sports.

Combining religion and education, and then parading humility while also making sure to give scholarships to athletes or only the smartest/best connected is about the most backwards thing you can really do in education, especially on the high school level.

You're right and I agree with what you're saying. This particular player, though, came mid-year, played his senior season, then went straight to college ball. He never played AAU. Other power conference schools schools did discover and offer him, but it was too late. I mean, just coming over and not knowing anybody, of course you're going to listen to your sponsor who you've built a relationship with. Really, the closest thing to it is what they were investigating with Michael Other in the blind side. You're right though. It's almost impossible to hide good talent today. Most of the corruption going on is between school booster and parent/player without an agent, e.g. Can Newton.

I thought the Chrissie thing was pretty hilarious myself. The question is, do we have a chance to land Ado?

Was he there visiting the Orange or the Blue team?

Thinking both. He was out of school according to other reports and wanted to go watch. I think CDT has built a good relationship there but we will have to fight off the likes of UK, Louisville, Virginia, and Vandy.

Didn't think UK would get that involved...but Thon Maker reclassified today to 2015. So maybe that changes the plans for 2016 and Ado.

True. If they get involved it might be over. He would go do a one and done but he's said he values academics so he may want to stick around some. Will be interesting. Very good player.
