Seems like a random comparison, and I don't think Josh Dobbs is anywhere close to the talent as a passer. However, people talking about how bad the passing game is should take a look at UGA in 2013. Murray was on fire.... Until 3 receivers and an lineman went down. I remember Bennett, and Scott welsely actually went down against UT (and Marshall who he was throwing to out of backfield)... He struggled with inexperienced receivers to find rhythm and looked dobbesque his sr year, losing 3 more games after the Win over UT.

UT had a less than average pass protection and had croom, north, pig, and Von out or inconsistently in. Under those circumstances, even great passing qbs can struggle.

With a healthy receivers and a more veteran line this year, I truly think there is the potential for a complete turnaround in the passing game.

Anything is possible. Dobbs made some good looking throws. A lot of the blame go's on the receivers. Man there was a lot of dropped balls and missed assignments. My opinion anyway.

Murray was a better passer IMO. I think Dobbs can still develop into a better passer.

I have full faith in Josh Dobbs to lead this offense and make the necessary % of accurate passes this year.

I read this as Aaron MEDLEY vs Josh Dobbs, and thought "oh man, somebody just made D4H have a stroke!"

Murray was a solid passer. Dobbs has made some good throws but he's much more accurate IMO on the run. I think Dobbs problem with pocket passing lies in his footwork.

If Dobbs could stop the happy feet and throw first and run second the offense could hit the next level.

We are a dangerous offense as is but that's the one thing that's keeping us from being a truly elite offense. Dobbs needs to be consistent but also needs help from the receivers.

I'd still say Dobbs all the way. He's going to prove that too by outperforming what Murray did his senior year at Georgia.

"Dobbs is God. What are you peasants talking about trying to compare Astro Dobbs to Sharon Murray. That little girl couldn't toss the ball in the ocean."

-D4H....probably

OK now explain why Ethan Wolf only had 22 receptions last year? You can try to explain our crap passing game all you like, but it comes down to one thing... scheme.

Murray was 5 yards from playing (and would've give ND the same treatment bama did) in the NC. I hope Dobbs does pass that.

I don't get caught up in completion percentages. Scheme of dink and dunk will reflect higher numbers than down field. Which out routes I'd say Dobbs is better but post routes Murray is better. That's OK because our scheme might not need that to be successful.

Wow. There was a guy by the name of Witten that only caught 28 passes his sophomore year... With one of UTs all time leading passers as his qb.

I can't teach the ability to think. Your comment makes no sense

While Josh has thrown some head scratchers, I don't believe that the avg fan is considering those two gigantic factors in the "down the field" passing game. The stats and effectiveness are based on teamwork and coherence in the passing game. Not only the accuracy and decision making of the QB.

If we keep a healthy WR core and our OL (LT?) gels and improves again, then Josh Dobbs will lokk like a man who ate his Wheaties in the off-season. I actually expect that to happen.

I've been seeing these threads all summer and y'all are going overboard with this stuff.

1. Dobbs is not a great passer.

2. Dobbs is not going to be a great passer

3. Dobbs does not need to be a great passer.

All Tennessee needs from Dobbs is to be is good enough in the 4 or 5 games they need him to be in order to keep defenses honest.

For the majority of the season, he won't have to do jack squat as a passer.

I agree with you for once 99.:hi: Not making fun but from an outsiders perspective. Would you trade your own QB situation for ours?

That's sort of a trick question.

He doesn't fit what Florida does. In order to take advantage of Dobbs' skill set, Florida would have to change its offense.

I like the premise, but this is more like a 'wish' than 'reality'. I wish (or hope) that his does step out as a passer, but I am not expecting this. In fact, (as noted above), it is not an absolute requirements for this team. It does add a dimension, but with the strong running game, stout defense, and special teams, we need J Dobbs to be accurate on short play-action passing, with an occasional long ball.

I mostly agree with this, with the caveat that worse passers than Dobbs have had some really productive seasons throwing the football in CFB before.

If he can just connect on 1-2 deep balls per game in 2016, it will be enough to keep defenses more honest and for the offense to really start running efficiently.
