Aaron Douglas Officially Gone

Exactly... they have rehab in Knoxville, don't they?

One of the more common things stressed is, "There is no geographic cure for an addiction problem; because no matter where you go, the problem (you) will still be there". When they say to change your playgrounds and playmates, they're saying find new friends who don't use, and stay out of the bars, parties, and drug houses... not move to another city, state, etc... There are drugs and drug dealers (legal and illicit) in every city and state in this country, and they ain't hard to find if you're looking for them.

I agree with you 100%, but I haven't read anywhere that said he was moving to another city or state.

From Espn:

Aaron Douglas, Tennessee's most talented and experienced offensive lineman, asked for his release Thursday and plans to leave the program.

Douglas started last season as a redshirt freshman at right tackle, but had not been practicing this spring while dealing with some personal issues.

"This was all Aaron's decision," said Douglas' father, David Douglas, who played on Tennessee's 1985 SEC championship team. "We've been talking about this for a month, and initially, I didn't necessarily agree with his decision. He actually wanted to do this a month ago.

"The bottom line is that he wasn't happy. He's always going to care about Tennessee, but I just think he wants to go somewhere and be his own person. Aaron needs a fresh start, and as his parents, we're going to support him in every way."

Aaron Douglas informed Tennessee coach Derek Dooley of his decision on Thursday before practice. The elder Douglas, who played in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, also talked with Dooley.

"I can tell you this was a gut-wrenching decision," David Douglas said. "It had always been Aaron's dream to play at Tennessee, but it just wasn't right for him. He even mentioned it a couple of times last year that it didn't feel right. It's not coach Dooley's fault, and I told him that. I understand how tough it is to lose your most experienced offensive lineman, but Aaron just wants to get away."

I blame Fulmer and the new health care bill

Funny, don't forget global warming.

Reading a lot of the negative guys, its hard to believe we've had 2 good football recruiting years and our BKB team is in the sweet sixteen.

These problems seem to be happening in a lot of programs all over the country, especially with coaching changes. maybe you foul-mouthed nay-sayers should get back on your medicines and become Oregon fans.

The only thing wrong with UT Football is some of the ignorant fans.

I know! Can you believe the fans? The fans haven't said two words since they got on campus, the fans let 2 top 10 recruits walk away, the fans got a freakin 1 star for the first recruit for 2011, the fans hired coaches that have no business being in the SEC, shall I continue? DANG those fans!

Losing all these high profile players is making me nervous. I had and still have a good feeling about CDD, but some of these recent events aren't going down too good with the pumpkin juice if you know what I am saying. I want to hear what some of the other players have to say about what is going on in the locker room.

Not weed, just painkillers.

This really does not add up, he grew up watching Tennessee, he grew up a fan of Tennessee, he started as a RS Freshman and was going to be a 4 year starter at UT, and he doesn't want to do this? Good luck with whatever he does, but I really don't think he wants to play football anymore. Who knows??

I don't know the kid, but...His dad played on a good UT team, his Mom played for the Lady Vols. Both were great UT athletes. He has been "promised" to UT since birth. I'm sure he's heard about it every day of his life. Maybe, just maybe, he went to UT for them more than he did for himself. I don't have any idea, but I know this sort of thing happens.

And I'm not implying that, either. It just looks like a couple of posters seem to think he has to leave Knoxville to recover, and that must be the only reason he's leaving; and I was simply pointing out that not only is that not true, but it's a common misconception to believe one can outrun his addiction... which, of course, he can't, because everywhere he goes, he's still there.

In other words, location is never the problem nor the solution... both can be found in the mirror.

I think for this season I will just watch the corresponding week of the 98 season. I can't wait for the opening game on the road at Syracuse. It should be a thriller. Go Vols. Oh the memories of years gone bye.:dance2:

Excellent point... The cause and solution to most of our problems can be found in that same mirror...

This couldn't have been posted in the other thread? There's even a link to that ESPN article in the other thread.
No, many of us don't have time to wade thru 11 pages of "the sky is falling drivel". The OP did us a favor....so bug off.

Well dang...I'm disappointed but not shocked or surprised given the stuff that was leaking out about him recently and from his H.S. days. Sounds like he's got real issues to deal with and Dooley is not the type of coach to turn a blind eye to keep a star on the field.

Next year is officially a rebuild year and we'll be lucky to break even. Just hope this staff can recruit their way out of this hole.

and maybe some of implied "oh yeah, aaron will be glad to play OL even though he's a TE" that goes with being a legacy player ... who knows...

jesus, wait til the guy starts losing ball games before you completely write him off...

If you read his father's quote this decision was something AD was pondering last year. How is this Dooley's fault? Sounds like he might have made the same decision even if Lame was still here.

this certainly sucks, but as dooley says, "this team's not about smoking weed, it's about planting grass," or something like that. we'll be fine sooner or later.
