Aaron Douglas Officially Gone

Dooley seems to be more about changing boys into young men and having a good football team as a by product. After all - isn't that what it's all about?

Anyone blaming Dooley here needs to get real. The dude was hooked on drugs to the point where he couldn't even play football for the team he grew up dreaming to play for anymore. It's really a sad situation; I just hope for Aaron that he gets past it and reaches his potential.

Just like Bryce Brown’s “problems”. I’m not saying Douglas didn’t have problems, but to say Dooley has no blame in either situation is ignorant.

You are the one who is ignorant. Dooley has nothing to do with this whatsoever. People like you really ruin this board.

I can't believe he would rather sit a year and transfer then start at UT next year. I wonder if he thought he would get dismissed for a failed drug test and asked for a release?

I am really going to miss Douglas because we need some good OL. But he was drama since he became a Vol. Does anybody remember this article? And I will admit I haven't searched through to see if this was posted, but I thought it was interesting. Personally, due to the lack of depth at OL, Douglas is a bigger loss than Brown.

When will you realize that PR is a non-essential part of college football.

Not necessarily this...
BTW, where were all of the anti-Kiffin threads when half the freakin' football team quit last year?

BUT THIS.

I'm sure CDD had "something" to do with AD's decision, whether it was directly or indirectly NO ONE knows, but to say that this is completely his fault is ridiculous.

LK's departure continues to infect this team and its obvious that there are still some guys on the team who feel jaded.

Its CDD's job to get these guys to buy in asap, but I think a lot of fans fail to realize the enormity of the task at hand here. The juniors and seniors have to be some of the most jilted UT student athletes in our history simply due to the coaching turn over that's happened over the past 3-4 yrs (including the OC under CPF).

How many players do you suppose came to UT b/c of a relationship they had with a coach? Half the team? More? I mean, read what Gerald Jones had to say about it. I guarentee he's not the only player who feels that way.

I have absolutely no insight into Mr. Douglas' situation so I won't speculate but to lay the fault completely at CDD's feet is wrong.

There is sonmething about the letter referenced in the article that I don't understand. If I am reading the article correctly, Aaaron's mother Karla, wrote a letter to David (Aaron's dad) and to Aaron. That letter was then sent to ESPN.

Why would a mom write a letter to her son and his father? Are his parents divorced? Even if they are, isn't it odd that she would write a letter, rather than discuss these issues in person? Am I missing something?

But he is also thinking about his values and what he believes in. Does he want to play for a coach and have a relationship or go through two or three coaches and know that the fans and the administration are in control? We are a sports family and we understand that business majors are running college athletics, but that is not what we believe in

I wish this had been handled differently, and left him an opportunity to rejoin the team when he gets his personal stuff under control. Disappointing to say the least.

A lot of kids just don't have it together--personal issues (drugs, poor behavior, don't like school), intellectual issues (not smart), family issues, immaturity, etc. In recent years we have more than our share of these types, sadly. Look at Brown: He's got a chance to be a good back, maybe a starting back, as a soph in the SEC, but there is family drama. Douglas, best care scenario, might be off pain pills and working construction or somesuch in two years--no college, no football. Or, knowing UT's luck, he'll transfer, kick his problems and play very well for somebody else. I want to tell this kids: Just be smart and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Then he should just give up football period. It won't be any different anywhere else. Coaches don't get to stay 10 years past their prime at most places now.

From Espn:

Aaron Douglas informed Tennessee coach Derek Dooley of his decision on Thursday before practice. The elder Douglas, who played in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, also talked with Dooley.

"I can tell you this was a gut-wrenching decision," David Douglas said. "It had always been Aaron's dream to play at Tennessee, but it just wasn't right for him. He even mentioned it a couple of times last year that it didn't feel right. It's not coach Dooley's fault, and I told him that. I understand how tough it is to lose your most experienced offensive lineman, but Aaron just wants to get away."

David Douglas has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Did he clear this statement with fijivol before making it? fijivol and likeminded fans have assured us that all this is happening because of Dooley.

There is no room whatsoever for anyone else to be blamed... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault.... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault... it must be Dooley's fault....

Any other questions, please PM fijivol, Lofton4three, or one of the other omniscient, omnipresent ones who post here.

Coaches DO typically stay more than one season.

It amuses me how many of you guys are quick to blame Dooley without any proof whatsoever but do not see the shambles that Kiffin left in his wake as a contributing factor to any of these occurrences.

"Aaron just wants to get away."

I understand this, I needed to get away after my sophomore year. I think this probably hurt the tavern on campus most, so yes its a different situation. I joined the Navy and went to North Africa.

I wasn't blaming Dooley, but whatever.
