A war of hydration next saturday

We've been practicing longer and dare I say harder than WV. Not to mention they lost training days for goat acquired foot & mouth disease.

It should work to our advantage. It will be hard on the drunken fans for which both Universities are known for.

Every coach I ever had, including college years...followed the Bear Bryant philosophy.
All other things being even close to "equal"...the team that wins will be the one that is in better physical condition. I hope we never lose a game because the other team is simply better conditioned while our kids "run out of gas" in the 4th quarter.

Don't laugh too much, high school coaches well into the 1970s promoted the same thing. Salt pills dispensed and perhaps one water break during practice and one immediately following end of practice. It's a wonder we didn't have more dead.
Heck I played in the late 80's early 90's and we were still doing it.

It's been pointed out a million times, but, here is where depth and smart substitutions come in to play, right? And, maybe, hydration when they come out. The past season, our defense was always on the field with little or no time to recuperate. If this problem is fixed, we stand a good chance of winning. Reportedly, WV is not so deep.

Vince Lombardi had a similar thought when he was famously quoted in Jerry Cramer's best seller Run to Daylight, "Fatigue makes cowards of us all."

50% chance of rain Saturday in Charlotte. Of course the forecast could change drastically by Saturday.

When I played, the coaches yelled at us for standing in the shade. "You guys look like a bunch of cows". No reguard for hydration. If you drank water, you were weak. Times have changed

It has been said over and over in other threads that the Vols would have the advantage if this game were played later in the year. Why? Depth. As in, West Virginia doesn't have any...their talent drops WAY off when you get to the 2nd string and beyond. Even their visiting fans point this out.

So who does a really hot, humid day favor? The team that can rotate players all afternoon long without having to suffer too much of a talent drop-off.

Short version is, this forecast favors the Vols. As long as our lads are hungry for the win and willing to work their butts off, this is 100% in our favor.

Pruitt strikes me as old school in the sense that he'll want to tire the defense out and take shots later. I have no clue. I'm excited.

It is about ten degrees hotter in Charlotte NC and Knoxville than in the far north mountains, plus the humidity. Will that have an effect on fans and players?

The month of August has been unusually hot and humid in WV (plenty of 90+ degree days). The fans won't be happy, but the team has been practicing during the hottest part of the day for a reason.

If I was confident in Tenn's Depth I would say yes, But seeing as how 2nd team DLine consists of a walk=on and 2 freshmen, Im not so sure who the heat helps

I came here expecting some drinking stories involving 'Hydration'.

Everyone in attendance at my house Saturday night will definitely be well hydrated.

Stay thirsty my friends.
