A Terrible look for Heupel and Vols [Roc Taylor]

With everyone decommiting and leaving we need all the help we can get. I do think it was wrong to pull the scholarship 1 day before NSD.

Roc and his coach are pissed most likely because they were probably expecting to get paid by Tennessee and doubly pissed off that nobody wanted him when he looked elsewhere.

Was it mentioned in an earlier post that maybe this kid wasn't going to qualify anyway?
Yep, it's been mentioned several times in this post that the kid wasn't going to qualify, that's why Pruitt didn't accept him during the early signing period. At least that's what I've seen here. The story that was released only had one side, if the reporter did any research he probably wouldn't have run it. Who needs both sides to a story and the facts before you blast.

Per Ryan Callahan, Pruitt had no intentions on signing Taylor. He was told this back before the early signing period. Schools don't take kids off boards until the kid announces they decommitted. Long story short, this kid and his handler have known for a while he wasn't going to Tennessee.

Roc is probably mad that he'll probably wind up at a Mid Major or FCS school.

It shows Heupel isn't afraid to make tough decisions and alienate people if he feels it's necessary. He could have acquiesced and said "it's wrong to do this to a kid right before NSD. He might not play or help us at all...but I don't wanna upset anybody." No. He made a call strictly on what he felt was best for UT and to heck with who is upset about it. I like that.

It looks like the kid is going to college on a scholarship so isn't that the goal for high school athletes.
From what I have read his coach has a few more prospects on his team and said they have no chance of going to UT. Is this not a decision that should be made by the player and their families or is this coach really the HANDLER for all these kids. That alone is one of the major problems that goes on everyday. Coaches the become "mentors/handlers" because these guys do not want what is best for the kid but just want to be in line for some type of payment in the future, be it cash, job or what ever.

The whole thing is shady but it's over now , he signed with Memphis and it will all be forgotten in a week or two.

This is Byron De'Vinner who "represents" Roc Taylor

Mr. De'Vinner was banned from UT's campus UNTIL his good buddy Jeremy Pruitt got hired. This is the same guy that tried to bring down another school in conference because after a player he represented signed with said school, the player got paid but Mr. De'Vinner didn't get "his". JH is doing the right thing by staying far away from this guy

What's really bad is that it's signing day and all we have to discuss is Heupel pulling a scholarship from a 3 star non-qualifier with a handler. They've ruined what most college football fans considered a "holiday" type event that we looked forward to with so much anticipation. Just can't wait for free agency, paying college players and more games in front of cardboard fans. Just giddy over what the game has become.

I personally see no scenario were Tennessee would be paying this kid a penny to play here. I don’t think you’re suggesting we would. He signed with Memphis over UAB and maybe Jackson State. I agree that the offers weren’t there too. There’s always the possibility I could be wrong.

Wow, did I read the article right? He had not heard from anyone from UT since Pruitt was fired or new staff hired and he thought that he still had an offer? Did Heupel even know this kid had an offer? I know i read he was visiting other places.

While it does not look that good, it happens most everywhere. The timing of this was made worse simply because of the late hiring date for Heupel. I do not think this is a big deal given the player has not made himself eligible yet.

How can Heupel not know the kid had an offer? He was on every list until yesterday. I can understand a middling player not being allowed to sign until he is eligible, but everyone else knew the player was committed and I refuse to believe our coach was the only one that didn't.
