A Tale of Two Basketball programs

THIS thead just more than proves what i have been saying for a month.........
team put too much emphasis on winning sec outright and beating memphis.
we peaked too early and got complacent.
period

Yeah because that's exactly what I was saying. I wasn't just pointing out that before the big dogs left C-USA Memphis was an NIT contender every single year, or that when they did make the NCAA they never made it to the sweet 16. Bruce Pearl has done more in his first three years at Tennessee than Calipari did in his first 5 at Memphis. If you want to compare him to someone like Ben Howland then I'll concede.
Hmm, UCLA was as bad as Tn when Pearl took the helm??

Cal=Took a program that had the nation's worst record in the 10 years preceding his arrival to the Final Four.
Bruce Pearl=His crowning achievement is, depending how you look at it, being an NCAA stoolie or winning a National Title at Jerkwater State.
Cal=5 Elite Eights.
Pearl=0.

Pearl will prove to be nothing more than a flashy version of his mentor, Tom Davis.
Whipped that tiger ass, did'nt he???

When Knight was at West Point, the Cadets were making the NIT when it mattered and playing the best the East had to offer. At least have something grounded in historical fact if you're going to try and fluff Bruce's time at Jerkwater State beating up on the Flatline Techs and Cupcake Colleges of the world.
Hmmm....."and playing the best the east had to offer". Blows the crap out of Cal with that one.

wow, you are BRAVE. Are you sure you want to continue without your armor?

By the by, I don't think I read that there are 50 better. The comment was that there are 50 with better resume's, which is probably pretty close to true.

I'm not taking up for hat because he is capable of handling his own affairs, but supporting his point that Pearl's resume' doesn't yet deserve a parade. Right now he espouses a style of ball that does not tend to win on the biggest stages. That bodes well for decent records and making the dance, but the biggest games will likely find us lacking.

I don't see the problem with that. I personally like Pearl and like what he's done for the program in many aspects, but I don't expect to win the big games with our style of play. We might have been watching that change later in the season, but it was for the worst. Personnel didn't support our style at the end of the year.
....don't expect to win the big games with his style of play?? Like beating 25% of the sweet sixteen this year without one of them being played at home? Come on fella's, CBP inherited one of the most dismal programs in the country and in three years has lost twice in the sweet sixteen. You idiots need to get a grip on reality. I'm not calling anyone in particular an idiot, but as a whole......this seems like a walk in some sort of freakin' altered time/space continuum.

guess I'm one of the idiots.

Can you even recall our playing a good game after Memphis?

There are not 15 teams more talented than Tennessee was.
....first of all YES THERE ARE.....secondly, if not, you've got nobody to thank but CBP. If he pulled that off in two recruiting seasons to the SH**HOLE he inherited, then there are not 50 better coaches. BTW, leave it to Hat to distract through semantics(freakin' lawyers). Whether it was stated properly or not, I think the SPIRIT of the post was 50 better coaches...not 50 better resumee's(which in and of itsself is an inane argument....resumee arguments tend to shift the paradigm to "time in rate" rather than talent).

I'll invite you to name 15 rosters better than ours.

There might not be 50 better resume's than Pearl's, but it's close.

Guess what? I couldn't care less what you think or what you're tired of. Now, go try to sell an old lady some insurance.
If a lawyer, a politician, and a non-moral used car salesman.....all with the same body mass, weight and height, all jump of the Empire state building at EXACTLY the same time......which one hits first????

...........Who freakin' cares?????

Guess what that and 75 cents will get you? A USA Today. Winning in the postseaon is to winning games in February what sleeping with Jessica Alba is to French Kissing Bea Arthur.
Uh-huh, so lets join a CRAP conf, schedule a weak OOC sched, and get our butts kicked by Memphis every year.....then we'll go to the Final freakin' four. Look dude, I'll take my chances with what CBP is doing and accomplishing.....you can HAVE the slacker route. CBP is taking the Pat Summit route....... one flashes and one packs REAL heat. One thing is for sure, I'm glad you are NOT our A.D.

....without digging too freakin' deep, Butler comes to mind, but this was a "general" idiot comment. The gun was'nt posted anywhere. Hell, you shoulda' been in my head after the L'ville game:)

By calling the Memphis out of conference schedule weak, you show exactly how much you actually know about basketball.

Heck BPV, I was'nt meaning to argue with you.....I think we are MOSTLY on the same page.....but here goes:
N.C.
KY
Fl
UCLA
Ks.
Ind
WSU
LOUSvlle
Wisc
Mich st
Georgtwn
Mem
Pitt
Tex
Duke
.....to start
Our guys are OVER-ACHIEVERS......give CBP a couple more yrs and that WON'T be the case

Pearl's accomplishments is not even equal to devoe at this point. Devoe has 3 SEC championships (1 tourney and 2 regular) 1 sweet 16 and 7 ncaa tourneys.

You think Devoe was a better coach than Pearl? That's a great way to start a debate. Devoe was mediocre while at UT.

Washington State isn't one of the 50 best rosters in college basketball.
