A good handgun

Make sure you fully understand the safety mechanism on the Glocks. They are a good and popular gun. The only guns I've ever sold are the two Glocks I bought years ago. I didn't actually understand the safety until after I bought them. There are a lot of them in use around the world daily. I don't feel safe with them. But, that's just me.

The only true safety on ANY GUN is don't put your finger on the trigger until you plan to fire it.

Indy when are you gonna be in town? Maybe I can let you fire a few rounds on some of my pistols and I can let you know of a few of the local gun shops..

I guess, bottom line, that's true. Wonder how many people actually do that. I do, but have seen too many who don't. I guess you're assuming a safety could fail.

In most situations having to manually override a mechanism in order to shoot is not a bad thing. I've shot glocks and liked the way they fired too but it's not the design I would want. One glock my buddies father owned was rigged with a hair double trigger (very low lb pull) that just seemed like an accident waiting to happen.

I agree with this. A "safety" is little more than another thing to manipulate to do the thing you're supposed to when your finger is on the trigger in the first place, which is to fire.* If you can't manage to keep your finger off the trigger until you intend to fire you've got some serious firearm handling issues with or without a safety. There are LOTS of pistols out there with no external manual safety, not just Glocks. (How many revolvers has anybody seen with a safety?) Some resort, with or without safeties, to "Israeli carry". This is nothing more than carrying with an empty chamber until actually ready to engage a target.

*Having a safety on a SAO meant to be carried cocked (1911 etc) makes sense as a matter of design. Same thing with rifles/shotguns since as opposed to being carried in a holster they spend all their time running around with their triggers exposed.

I am a very big carry advocate, lets just say that you were forced to use your firearm in a high stress situation. Would you remember to take the safety off or would you just start pulling the trigger?

Which brings up another point, I think revolvers are a good choice for cc especially for a novice, because if you pull the trigger and it misfires you just pull it again.

That's shouldn't be a carry pistol. I have few glocks, my carry gun has a factory pull weight, another is just a range gun and it has a very light trigger.

The ready to fire logic is excellent for experienced users well trained in safety. We all know there are a lot of novices cruising with guns and that really is the bigger issue, regardless of gun design. for example the guy that shot his pecker with his wife's handgun tucked in his waist band recently. He was in a supermarket when that happened.

Just bought a NAA .22 mag.
Good friend of mine bought one of these a few years ago when they weren't quite as pricey. Sweet little pocket pistol shooting .22 mag.

Someone else who has actually shot the gun may say otherwise but in the sig line it looks like the sp2022 might be a good one for you to check out especially for your budget. Supposedly the mechanics are similar to the 229 except it's synthetic so it's lighter and less expensive and it has 3 grip widths so assuming the overall feel is good you should be able to customize to you. You can get 15 rd mags and it seems to hit all your requested objectives.

Looks like you can get this cheaper than a brand new CZ, which appeared to be above your original price point.

ill give this a closer look when i have more time. i have found the CZ for $479 though, so it is in my price range.

i just mentioned Fugates and my grandma said something bout my uncle having a cousin that owns it. lol

Yeah its the best place around and good people run it. I just bought 2 guns from them today. Maybe we can meet up somewhere tomorrow and I'll let you throw a few rounds down range. You ever shot an AR15? If not I can bring it along, they're a blast.

I guess if we are going to go there it will have to be Monday before we leave. I'd be cool with meeting up to shoot. what else do you have? any of the guns i have been talkin about being interested in?

No not really, I'm sold on glock but I thought I could bring my 357 mag and a sig 22 and show you a few things about each style of gun. Might narrow your choices a little.
