A good handgun

i've only started one thread on this site. if i am gonna drop half a grand on something that will eventually lead me to drop much more money, i wanna make sure i get the best possible option i can.

I never said you started two threads on just this site. Get a decent starter gun. Spend a weeks pay.

yeah he explained that to me and showed me what it meant. I actually feel like i learned quite a bit today. he also said something about half cocking it because some people don't feel safe having it fully cocked. But other than the double action vs. single action, aren't they very similar?

After a bit of looking around I found this. Good compare/contrast.

Browning

i agree, although my friend told me that the barrel is not as important for accuracy as a lot of people make it out to be. He explained it to me, but i really didn't get it. It was while he was trying to explain how he thought a sig would be a better purchase for me than the CZ 75. have you looked into the CZ at all?

Longer barrels are not, in and of themselves, more accurate than shorter barrels. Longer barrels do help in two ways; a longer sight plane and increased velocity. The former is a function of the distance between the front and rear sights and the latter a matter of more efficient powder burning. Sigs are very well thought of in most circles though some think they are overpriced in their respective slots. I've not personally shot a CZ (not sure how that hasn't happened yet) but there's enough people speak well of them that they must be pretty good weapons.QUOTE]

Morning 'nation-

I am considering picking up an ISSC-M22 as a cheap .22 trainer. Anyone here own or have fired on of these? I have a Glock 23 already.

I can get one delivered for 229 + 20FFL.

It will pay for itself in about 15 boxes of .40S&W ammo I should save.

I had a bucket of light bulbs to shoot but they all got broken after someone kicked the crap out of the bucket after the 2010 LSU game.

it said they won't answer specific questions about when they will get stuff in stock. i was just curious if anyone had a general idea.

There is no timetable. It depends on what their distributors have available. It could be tomorrow, next week, next month, or even next year. Sometimes they might have to wait until the manufacturer starts producing them again, or if a used one becomes available to them by sale or trade.

He's right when I was looking for a Marlin last year I found out they shut the plant down and were moving. Places either had what was left of the run or had none. I just looked around at other sites.

Indy, what you need to do now is go to one or more of the local gun shops there and actually hold and handle the top five or six on your list. Just tell them what you're doing. If it's a good reputable shop, they will understand. If the piece doesn't fit your hand well or feel awkward, you won't use it after you buy it. You'll know when you handle the right one for you. This step will eliminate some of the possibilities you're kicking around in your head. Then, you can focus on the ones that are left. All the great reviews won't matter if you purchase one that is too small, too big, has poor balance in your hand, etc.

+1 for what Sly said. You've got lots of info now to start narrowing down.

Sounds like you definately want a 9mm

I've never handled an M22 but I do have an Advantage Arms .22 conversion. This allows you to literally use your current Glock's frame/trigger for practice while using a slide that's specifically made to duplicate the Glock. (being an aluminum slide it's a good deal lighter though)

Advantage Arms Conv Kit 22LR 4.02" Black w/Clng Kit Glk 19, 23 AACLE19-23 - ManVenture Outpost, LLC

There are a couple things to consider. The AA kits, especially in the 19/23 configuration are very popular and therefore can be hard to find. The other is that you might actually "want" another stand-alone pistol instead of just a caliber swap slide. If the latter is the case I'd go with the M22 as that seems to be a nice price.

I have looked at both very closely. The AA kit looks very nice and will run me the same $$ as the M22, plus its on backorder everywhere.

All the stuff I have read so far tells me both are about the same regarding ammo pickiness.

Was mainly asking in case anyone had some serious issues with one.

Indy- I have been very happy with my Glock. I don't think you can go wrong with your list.

Bear in mind, once you get one, shoot it as often as you can.

Good luck and happy shooting!

thanks for the advice, the only problem is that there are no good places around here that i know of. I am going to try to go to one in Cleveland this weekend though. i think it was V&V that recommended it.

i would like to try glock as well. i just don't know how i feel about the safety.

1911 is a particular design and model of a pistol. I think they were first issued in 1911 to the army or something. You probably used one on Black Ops, the M1911A1. They are beautiful, with a full length barrel.

They have a very distinct looking grip.

You're ready to take a dump then

Make sure you fully understand the safety mechanism on the Glocks. They are a good and popular gun. The only guns I've ever sold are the two Glocks I bought years ago. I didn't actually understand the safety until after I bought them. There are a lot of them in use around the world daily. I don't feel safe with them. But, that's just me.

The S&W M&P is a good gun. I have the full size .45 version, and I have shot the .40 and .357 versions. I like all 3 of them. I'm sure the 9mm version would be just as good as the others.

Someone else who has actually shot the gun may say otherwise but in the sig line it looks like the sp2022 might be a good one for you to check out especially for your budget. Supposedly the mechanics are similar to the 229 except it's synthetic so it's lighter and less expensive and it has 3 grip widths so assuming the overall feel is good you should be able to customize to you. You can get 15 rd mags and it seems to hit all your requested objectives.

Looks like you can get this cheaper than a brand new CZ, which appeared to be above your original price point.
