A good handgun

I didn't mean that as a joke, that was the way I grew up....a long, long time ago. You have had some really good, I repeat, really good advice in this thread. The only "real" advice I can add that has already been said, but not in the same words, is this.....

Whatever you decide always remember to respect the firearm, it can be a lot of things but one thing it IS....deadly.

i will definitely try to look into that while i am there. but automatic triggers? what does that mean?

S&W auto pistols have double action triggers= long heavy trigger pull like a revolver. Personally I don't care for them. I like short crisp triggers, that's why I like glock.

Neil,

Why don't you own any guns? Also, why do you hate America, Jesus and freedom?

damn. im trying to stay closer to 500 lol

9mm pistols that you should be able to find around your price point that have an established reputation. (in no particular order)

Springfield XD
Sig 250
FNH FNP 9
Kahr CW9
Glock 17/19/26
S&W MP 9

These are just off the top of my head but I've seen all of them used for $500 or less. Being willing to spend more obviously expands the pool (I'm patiently waiting for a Sig P229 Elite to pop up at a price I want, unless a Walther PPS comes up first) but all of the above are established pieces. Bear in mind some might suit you better than others. Even if you can't manage to actually shoot all of them at least handle as many as you can and see which "feels" best in your hand.

Get on the phone and find a local gun club. With any luck you can find some guys that'd be more than happy to show you the ropes or even let you shoot with them and get some instruction. Most real gun guys enjoy getting other people into it. I've had more fun with my .500 letting others shoot it at the range than I have. Never fails to make an impression.

Any way you can change your avatar back to that cool guy in the white suit and orange tie?

That avatar was awesome.

Yeah, I was thinking about changing it sometime today. Wasn't sure what. Probably go back to him. That's Leon Redbone, if ya didn't know. Cool guy/cool music. Thank for the suggestion. Now, I'll have to find him or make another one.

Fail. Berreta knockoff

Actually a bit of an oversimplification. IIRC the PT92 is a licensed reproduction of the Beretta made in the actual Brazilian plant, on the same tooling, where Beretta used to make the 92 themselves.

That's been awhile back so I'm sure there's been changes over the years but that's how the story began anyway.

Didn't know that. Wiki?

i think i would probably agree with you.

I'm confused now. You looking for long barrel? Revolver?

well no, but i thought something around 4.5-5 was what i needed? all of those that i saw were under 4.

I was looking at the Taurus PT92 for a while, but decided i would prefer the CZ 75b. that's my choice for 9mm as of right now unless someone shows me something better.

Yep, that's where they started. I own several of the Taurus line and would personally rather have them than a Beretta. I have the PT 92 AF and it is standard issue for the Brazilian army, MP's, etc.
