Been there done that. Had a rotator cuff tear, labium tear, and bone spur so had the sx to fix it. Then about a 9 mths later scar tissue build up so had to get it scraped out.
Is it worth it? depends. To get rid of the hurt, yes. Is it worth it with what you have to go thru? errr, not gonna say no but you better really want it or need it.
To get back to full mode usually takes a year. I still cant throw a baseball or football nearly as far or as fast as before but there's no hurt when I do it. If I had done extensive PT like an athlete them I might be able to do it as well as before.
Alot of pain with recovery. Alot of PT just to get the range of motion again. You spend quite a long time sleeping in a chair or on your back. You cant sleep on your side that had the sx for awhile.
Here's your TMI about it. My was my right shoulder and being right handed was difficult anyway but the worse was after the surgery and I went to the bathroom for a #2. It dawned on my not only cannot I wipe but I dont know how to wipe with my left hand. I had to approach her and say "honey, I'm sorry to ask you this and God knows I dont want to but I need help". Very humiliating. It was also a few months before I could button my pants .
My advice is to try to do everything you can and make the sx the very last option.
