A couple of Friendly(Gator) thoughts on the game

If only Taylor Bray doesn't throw 2-4INTs when trying to get the ball to Jason Hunter so much.

OP, you should totally start calling games for UT. You'd be a lateral move at worst.

10 yards, IMO, would be a push on the rushing stat. If your defense can hold us to that type of yardage, you win hands down. The team that ran for the most yards has won 18 of the last 20 matchups. This stat I did research :)

Okay, change it to 140 yards rushing for UF, does that change anything?

I tend to agree that the team with the most running yards will likely win. It's hard to argue with facts.

There are however, exceptions. If Bray throws over 300 and 3 tds, I would say we win.

It depends. How many turnovers for each team? What is the average starting field position for either team?

For instance, if Florida's average starting field position (asfp) is at the 50 yard line, but Tennessee's is on the 25 yard line, and there were 0 turnovers for either team, I'd say that would be a close score.

If UT's asfp is on your 40 yard line and Florida's is on our 25 yard line, it'd be a butt whoopin (also assuming 0 turnovers).

Bray has 0 ints on the year. Can we afford half of those? And how many more times do we need to hear uf's db's will easily contain out wr's. This is just an insane statement that y'all continue to repeat. I guess u think if u say it enough it'll come true. Reality: we have 2 of the top 5 wr's in the nation with a top 5 qb throwing to them. Reality: your best db and lb are out. Uf will not EASILY contain these guys. It's really pointless to continue to respond to these types of comments. Hopefully you'll post a crow eating thread on here next week

Dude, I made a mistake and owned up to it. Every year I've been on this board, I've been civil, classy and have offered to eat crow the next day. This year will be no different. :banghead2:

Why are you introducing other factors? My whole point was that you cannot say the team with the most rushing yards likely wins.

Does this last post mean you are conceding that's not true?

Okay guys, keeping this real.

I have watched both teams this season, and here is my observation on a few things.

I would say Fl defense is better than TN, but that was before the FL injuries. I think both defenses are equal, with TN having the advantage at the LB position as long as our LBs stay healthy. I think Fl D-line may be slightly better. Overall I would say equal.

TN offense is awesome this season, I'm still a little skittish on the run game though, but think we will do well by rotating guys out like we have been. Florida has the advantage in the run game, and we will need to pressure their QB and keep his ass contained. We have a better O-line and can protect the QB better. FL WRs are not even close to the VOLS. Advantage TN.

Special teams. equal for the most part. I do have faith in Brodus, but not feeling it 100% yet until he is tested this season. Fl special teams are a little suspect, but so is ours. Overall I would say Equal.

I think TN wins

VOLS: 27
Gators: 20

GBO!

I don't believe that the rushing game will hold the same significance this year. If Florida tries to grind this game out from the beginning, they will most likely lose. Tennessee can score as quickly as anyone in the country.

Also, even though gilly is better than any of the tn backs, tn still avg more rushing yards per game and per carry as a team. Also, 200 more yards of total offense a game... That is a ton. Considering tn scored 23 last year with the issues they had, I would be surprised if they don't hit 30 this year. If Florida doesn't have some trick plays or big turnovers, it will be difficult for them to keep up with the vols o. I think it will a high scoring game.

Special teams has to go to Florida by default.

The one bright spot (or two) is the return game. CP and DY are the only thing worth saving on special teams.

18 of the last 20 winners in our series had the most rushing yards. How hard is that to understand? The media harps on this every game since I was a student at UF. Other factors are going to be introduced when we play. It's never as simple as one single stat. But again, 18 of the last 20 winners, we'll get told time and time again by the commentators, have won the game.

So that means you can just throw that generic line out there willy nilly?

18 of the last 20 winners probably had a more balanced offense than either of ours, as well.

18 of the last 20 or close to it past winners probably had more passing yards, too!

I'm not good at trash talk, and I'd rather discuss football than get banned on a rival board. So, I'll chalk up my thoughts of this game, keys for a victory on either side and hopefully this will stir up some civil discussion.

Some Friendly thoughts:
This game is going to play out like the games of old, but with the roles reversed. (weird, huh?) Tennessee comes in with a high powered offense, one of, if not the best QB/WR skill players in the SEC and reminds me of a fun'n'gun style offense. I'm still not sure how your defense will look, and from the look of the past 2 games your LBers *may* be a little suspect.

Florida comes in as a hard nosed, grind'em out type of team that reminds me of Fulmer's Vols of the 90's. Gilly has been nothing short of superb and leads the SEC in rushing so far this season. The passing attack, while not great, has been very good. Driskel has 0 turnovers and completes a high percentage of passes. We also have a new OC from Boise State (who also coached Kentucky a while back if you remember). He has not opened up the playbook 100% just yet primarily because of the young QBs. I still don't think we'll open it up 100% for you guys, but we'll see more plays, trick plays, etc.

If the stats plays out this year, the team with the most rushing yards should win the game. I'm not sure how your run game is just yet considering the competition you played. If Gilly is able to play through his groin injury, we should be able to limit the number of possessions you have. In the same token, UT should take advantage of some big plays in the passing game. I think defense will dictate who wins this game.

Keys for Tennessee:
1) Limit turnovers. Bray has 0 turnovers. Which is good because he can't afford any if you expect to beat Florida, especially if we are able to establish the run game. You can't expect to score on every possession.

2) Remain healthy. I want this to be a clean, injury free game. You can't afford to have one of your key playmakers go down with an injury this game.

3) Play lights out defense. Contain Gilly, or whoever is our RB for the game. This ideally should be the #1 key.

4) Establish the run. Marlon whatshisname (sorry, name escapes me at the moment) needs to have the game of his life.

Keys to a Florida win:

1) We continue to be a disciplined team. No turnovers or silly penalties.

2) We come out to play for a full 4 quarters. Our defense can't afford to spot UT an entire half. We are more than capable of containing their WRs. TAMU has the potential to have an outstanding offense and we will soon see this in SEC play. Shutting them down in the second half was unbelievable. We need the same output from the D the entire game.

3) Gilly. It looked like he had a groin injury from his last TD run. I hope he'll be fine, but he will be a key to winning. Without him, Brown and Jones will really need to step it up.

4) Continue to open the playbook up for Driskel. I think we can all agree that the offense looked lightyears better than the last 2 years. We need to continue to open it up. I'd like to see some 5 yard slants and maybe some screens thrown in this week.

5) Limit the sacks. Whether it's on the OL or Driskel, we can't afford to have Driskel on his back.

6) Keep their offense off the field by winning the time of possession stat. This will be huge for us if we can limit them to 7 or 8 possessions for the game, or less.

This game will go either way and will be close. It will come down to defense, conditioning and depth. This is why I think Florida will ultimately win. Tennessee will hold a lead going into the half and through the 4th quarter, but our last drive we kick a game winning field goal.

Final Score:

Florida- 23

Tennessee - 21

Bro there is no If when it comes to the best passing/catching combo in the SEC and there is no close 2nd.And our starting LB's are also the best around. Im not real sure about our passing defense and ability to stop a true passing attack, but Florida definitely wont test that. You guys beat A'M, who is not a good team and they were playing their first game of the year with a new QB. So dont fool yourself into thinking you played a great defense and stopped a prolific offense. If it had been their 2nd game i really doubt UF even wins at all. Florida does not have a very good passing game as you say and UF's receivers arent going to scare anybody. Plus your OLine gives up alot of sacks and gets Driskel hit alot. If we dont kill ourselves there is no way we shouldnt win by 14+. But our past history we have shown to turn it over and kill ourselves. That being said..

Vols 31
gators 13

Oh one last thing, you dont want to compare opponents, you guys have played nobody. And no our RBs dont have to have the game of their lives. This is not a great UF team and an even worse coached team. Muschump is just aweful.

Could very well happen. You guys have a great team this year. I've never said otherwise.

Jenkins being out, Riggs being out and your RB nursing a groin injury, makes me love our chances. A freshmen will start in place of Jenkins, hope he is good in coverage cause he will be tested there as will whoever is replacing your nickel back ( Riggs ).
