A couple of Friendly(Gator) thoughts on the game

Learned a new word today...

physicalness - definition of physicalness by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

He added an extra "l". regardless, it's still a word but we're glad you learned something new today.

Florida will be the most physical team that UT has seen to date. I think the physicallness of the Florida secondary will slow UT down significantly.

In addition, UF is not going to be giving up anything deep.

In order to win, UT has to run and own the middle of the field.

On offense, Florida will play a possession game the whole way. They're averaging about 34-35 minutes of possession per game right now. Near tops in the country.

If Florida limits UT's possessions in this game, and makes them have to be patient moving up and down the field, then I think UF has a decent chance to win.

It won't be by a lot of points though. If UF wins, it'll be something like 24-21 or something. If UT gets going and gets big plays and/or can run, then I think it'll be like 31-20 vols or something.

Just my 2 cents.

Florida is a much better team this year than last year, tough and scrappy, and hopefully that will be enough for them to win.

UF will give up at least one deep ball.

Like I said, learned a new word today.

I also learned that UF's secondary contains matter. They will be hard to stop, then.

I'm not good at trash talk, and I'd rather discuss football than get banned on a rival board. So, I'll chalk up my thoughts of this game, keys for a victory on either side and hopefully this will stir up some civil discussion.

Some Friendly thoughts:
This game is going to play out like the games of old, but with the roles reversed. (weird, huh?) Tennessee comes in with a high powered offense, one of, if not the best QB/WR skill players in the SEC and reminds me of a fun'n'gun style offense. I'm still not sure how your defense will look, and from the look of the past 2 games your LBers *may* be a little suspect.

Florida comes in as a hard nosed, grind'em out type of team that reminds me of Fulmer's Vols of the 90's. Gilly has been nothing short of superb and leads the SEC in rushing so far this season. The passing attack, while not great, has been very good. Driskel has 0 turnovers and completes a high percentage of passes. We also have a new OC from Boise State (who also coached Kentucky a while back if you remember). He has not opened up the playbook 100% just yet primarily because of the young QBs. I still don't think we'll open it up 100% for you guys, but we'll see more plays, trick plays, etc.

If the stats plays out this year, the team with the most rushing yards should win the game. I'm not sure how your run game is just yet considering the competition you played. If Gilly is able to play through his groin injury, we should be able to limit the number of possessions you have. In the same token, UT should take advantage of some big plays in the passing game. I think defense will dictate who wins this game.

Keys for Tennessee:
1) Limit turnovers. Bray has 0 turnovers. Which is good because he can't afford any if you expect to beat Florida, especially if we are able to establish the run game. You can't expect to score on every possession.

2) Remain healthy. I want this to be a clean, injury free game. You can't afford to have one of your key playmakers go down with an injury this game.

3) Play lights out defense. Contain Gilly, or whoever is our RB for the game. This ideally should be the #1 key.

4) Establish the run. Marlon whatshisname (sorry, name escapes me at the moment) needs to have the game of his life.

Keys to a Florida win:

1) We continue to be a disciplined team. No turnovers or silly penalties.

2) We come out to play for a full 4 quarters. Our defense can't afford to spot UT an entire half. We are more than capable of containing their WRs. TAMU has the potential to have an outstanding offense and we will soon see this in SEC play. Shutting them down in the second half was unbelievable. We need the same output from the D the entire game.

3) Gilly. It looked like he had a groin injury from his last TD run. I hope he'll be fine, but he will be a key to winning. Without him, Brown and Jones will really need to step it up.

4) Continue to open the playbook up for Driskel. I think we can all agree that the offense looked lightyears better than the last 2 years. We need to continue to open it up. I'd like to see some 5 yard slants and maybe some screens thrown in this week.

5) Limit the sacks. Whether it's on the OL or Driskel, we can't afford to have Driskel on his back.

6) Keep their offense off the field by winning the time of possession stat. This will be huge for us if we can limit them to 7 or 8 possessions for the game, or less.

This game will go either way and will be close. It will come down to defense, conditioning and depth. This is why I think Florida will ultimately win. Tennessee will hold a lead going into the half and through the 4th quarter, but our last drive we kick a game winning field goal.

Final Score:

Florida- 23
Tennessee - 21

I've got some "friendly" advice for you. GET YOUR DAMNED FACTS STRAIGHT!

Reasonable analysis, notwithstanding the Bray interception mistake (corrected in the version I read).

Mistake or no, it is true that we will not win if Tyler Bray chunks a bunch (defined as 2 or more) of picks.

I'm not sure that I agree that the team with the most rushing yards wins. I do believe that Tennessee will have to have an above-average (by SEC standards) rushing performance to win. It doesn't have to be great, just good enough to give our receivers some space.

Sadly - and it hurts to say this since UT has always taken such pride in its kicking game - if it comes down to the kicking game, like, say, in OT, we lose.

I never predicted he would have 4 interceptions in our game. I made an erroneous statement that he had 4 interceptions against NCSU. How would referencing your first game affect the outcome of this game?

I'm not saying you predicted exactly 4 INT's, but you were clearly under the impression that it would be something that would play a major role in the game. Otherwise, why would you list it #1 in your keys for the Vols?

Similarly, if Gilly had 4 fumbles against A&M, don't you think that would change your prediction?

It seems pretty obvious you will rationalize your prediction until it comes to the end result you want to see. No problem with that - you're a fan.

But hopefully you'll understand if nobody takes your prediction and subsequent posts seriously after that boo boo.

10 yards, IMO, would be a push on the rushing stat. If your defense can hold us to that type of yardage, you win hands down. The team that ran for the most yards has won 18 of the last 20 matchups. This stat I did research :)

All this means is TN will have more rushing yards!!!!
TN 31
FL 24

I really don't think UF has the 2ndary to match up with UT's WRs. UT is going to score and quite often. UF will score as well, but not at the same clip.

I know were you got the 4 ints stat from in the UT/NCST game...it was UT's 2ndary that got them...the last one was a meaningless pick in the endzone with 4 secs left and UT was up by more than 2 scores.

UT 38 -UF 24

I stopped reading at this statement because you just lost all credibility. Bray hasn't thrown a pick all year.

And I seriously doubt you hold us to 21 points.

Also this will not be the same game as in the past where the team with the most rushing yards wins the game. We are a different team this year and don't have the "ground and pound" mentality. You secondary is about to get lit up...hell even last year they were committing PI on purpose.

This....now please leave.

#1 - Continue to be disciplined? Ya'll had 14 penalties in your first game and are the most penalized team in the SEC. Think 102,000 rowdy fans won't have an impact here?

#2 - More than capable of containing our WR? Really? Ask Amerson the ALL AMERICAN DB from NCST if he could contain them...

#3 - Your last statement must've come to you in a dream; that's ok, the VOLS will wake you up on Saturday!!!!

Go VOLS!

I figured I would make a few predictions

1) We will go deep more than once (deep defined by a pass or end around of more than 50 yards

2) Florida will struggle mightily to make big plays in the passing game

3) Our kicking game will not be great - at best average as in no missed XP and no makes beyond 25 yds

4) Our short yardage running game will be poor or non-existent

5) We will be outrushed by Florida

6) Tennessee will still win the game

I doubt it's a memory problem. More than likely you listened to your mouth-breathing comrades and bought their incorrect stat immediately to make yourself feel better about the game.

His analysis was copied and pasted from a Gator Board; I read those same bs comments over there this morning. Damn OP, if you're going to plagarize, at least copy off someone who knows what the hell they're talking about!

Seriously, where are you getting these 4 INT's that Bray supposedly threw?? Did you just pull them from the air or something?

After I read that, I quit reading b/c u lost all credibilty..Need to get your facts straight or you will get ripped apart..And you have, deservingly so.:birgits_giggle:

Florida will be the most grab-happy team that UT has seen to date. I think the constant holding by the Florida secondary will slow UT down significantly.

I fixed those for you.

Is the OP the original author? I am pretty sure this is cut and paste from a Gator website.

Discipline? LOL!!!! Really? Discipline? UF is the most penalized team in the conference. They've allowed the most sacks in the conference. They're one of the highest in tackles for loss allowed in the conference.

....

4) Establish the run. Marlon whatshisname (sorry, name escapes me at the moment) needs to have the game of his life.

......

Marlon whathisname is actually Raijon Neal, but Devrin Young and Marlin Lane will get some carries.

continue to be disciplined?? you need to *start* being disciplined.. I forsee alot of PI and defensive holding this game.

We dont do a Oregon style hurry up.. but ToP isnt real important to us, our scoring drives arent 6 to 8 minute ground em out drives.

^THIS^ He also thought Bray threw four interceptions. I don't think he has watched either team play this year.
