98 Vols vs 2011 LSU

These teams are oh so similar.

That's what I was thinking.

The two teams are almost mirror images of each other. Serviceable QB (when Jarrett Lee is playing), punishing running game, pretty good receivers, beastly defense.

If Jamal Lewis was healthy, I may take the 1998 Vols. Otherwise, I'd probably take LSU, but I'm not old enough to remember the 1998 team that well.

That 98 UT team was a very fortunate group.

So is LSU. We needed Clint Stumbler in 1998, and LSU needed Bama's kicker with a wet-noodle for a leg in 2011.

Similar seasons, IMO. Would definitely be a knock-down, drag-out, smashmouth game.

But, I give it to UT, just because. :) GBO

98 team had a lot more close calls.

but, when you can play that kind of defense, you can play with anyone.

both teams would have a hard time scoring on one another.

2011 LSU, and probably by a couple TDs.

1998 Vols won 6 of their 13 games by 10 or fewer points - very good team that had a lot of breaks go their way to win the MNC
2011 LSU have only had 3 of their 13 games within 20 points - one of the more dominant teams in the BCS era
