Yeah that seems to be the consensus. Although OCI says 25 or 26. What we know for sure is that we can only enroll 25 and one of those goes to Tino. So I'll assume 24 until they surprise me. Which wouldnt surprise me.

I was thinking of ways around the new 25 limits and one possibility occurred to me. It is a bit of a risk to the kid, but if they trust Dooley, it would work.

If a local kid like Blanc or Bullock have the grades to get a lottery scholarship, they could actually come on as a walk-on for the first semester, redshirt (as either likely would anyway) and then go on scholarship in the spring. It would save Dooley a schools or two, and maybe they get rewarded on the back end with money to attend graduate school or something like that.

The new rule only applies to bringing in kids on scholarship, so I expect Dooley or any other coaches with loopholes like this to find ways around the 25.

They did. Croom will be a hybrid TE. Big kid who will grow into the position.

Croom could easily go 240, without a loss in speed. Be a good sized TE with soft hands and one hell of a punch. Croom has TE written all over him,,,heck of a good blocker,,solid release,,,size and speed. I know the kid has his heart set on being a WR, and wants to play WR,,,but once he gets coached up,,,and bulked up,,he's solid TE material.

Bullard doesnt count for any signing class he only counts against the scholarship total if he gets a scholly. He is considered a walk on.

Totally disgaree. He will never be 240lb, and he will be a wide out. With a TE in the game he will be mis match night mare for corners.

Well according to Scout he's already 233lbs. If they're right 7 more lbs won't be too hard.

With 7-8 spots left, I go:

1. ATH Pig Howard
2. WR Cordarelle Patterson
3. OT Andrew Jelks
4. DE Denico Autry
5. DE (1 of Darius Hamilton, Jordan Jenkins, Leonard Williams, Jelani Hamilton, Javonte Magee)
6. DT Danny O'Brien
7. DT (1 of Dalvin Tomlinson, Korren Kirven, Daniel McCullers, Ryan Watson)
*8. Surprise OL (1 of D.J. Humphries, Patrick Miller, Jordan Diamond, Vadal Alexander, Andrus Peat)

*Dependent on if Bullard counts towards this class or not.

I could see the possibility that we land Marion Grice and Imani Cross leaves. I could also see the possibility that we replace a current LB commit with Nick Dawson/Javiere Mitchell. If we were to land Keith Marshall, he'd take Pig Howards spot.

We have 9 to 10 spots left in this class.

How so? We have 16 committed and Tino Thomas counts towards this class. That gives us 17. At most we have is 8, but, if Bullard counts to this class, we have 7.

Bullard does not count against the 2012 class. At least one of the current commits has agreed to "greyshirt" (a/k/a not count against the 2012 class). So the 16 is really 15. With the new rule limiting schools to sign only 25 players each year, you will start to see some of the "greyshirt" players not sign with the school in February. Tino Thomas bumps us back up to 16. As I mentioned previously, the staff does not plan on turning away any current commits. If someone decommits, it will be a mutual parting of ways, and there is only one current commit where this could come into play.

Tino Thomas still signed with us in February. It wasn't until this week until the staff made that decision to have him be the one that greyshirted. All of these guys will sign an LOI in February.

Currently sitting at 15 commitments with the addition of Tino Thomas in January and possibly Alex Bullard being placed on scholarship next fall, the numbers become even tighter.
As of how it stands today, the Vols will have 71 players on the books next year if no one leaves, meaning there are only 14 spots available.

The 25-signee rule was not in effect last February. The 2012 class is the first class affected by the new rule.

Players leave programs before their eligibility is up for a number of reasons (transfer, graduation, NFL draft, quitting football). Greyshirts will be used to keep us at 85. Bottom line, we will sign 24 to 25 in this class.

So by the new rule, we have to know in February how many and which recruits are going to greyshirt?

Hubbs believes we are going to sign 23-25 but those numbers include Bullard and Tino.

The new rule only allows us to sign 25. If we have 26 commits, it means that one of them will not be able to sign. We do not necessarily have to know who will greyshirt in February (although the staff already knows who is greyshirting because this is discussed with recruits). Dooley is going to trim the fat off the roster after this season. Look for a few RS Juniors with degrees to call it quits. Look for some Freshmen, RS Freshmen, Sophomores, and RS Sophomores to transfer. Also expect some academic/"violation of team rules" casualties. However, if a kid is doing everything right on and off the field, his scholarship WILL NOT be yanked.

One more thing to note (then I'll shut up), Tino Thomas is not obligated to sign with us. I'm not saying this will come into play, but it should be noted.
