Jones has stated that Gaulden is working ALOT at nickel. After hearing a lot of these reports I'm getting a couple of ideas about the secondary.

Looks like Warrior is ballin enough we can move Gaulden back to nickel. And Maliek is competing outside more. Looks like Martin is also behind Moseley. Hopefully Moseley figures it out and isn't just a practice warrior. Kid does have a lot of potential on the outside.

The only problem w/ Mosely is they are ALWAYS praising him for the last two summers, but as you know once he gets in a game..........he seems like he has NO ball skills and NOT a high football IQ, for instance it will be 3rd and 5 and Mosely will line up 7 yards
deep..............

This is the most athletic team I've seen in a long time

Every time I look at each 3 defensive position groups, I come to the same conclusion. I can't remember an entire group with this much athleticism.

98' ...Equaled it on the DL, maybe a little better at LB, but nowhere near at the back end, especially w depth.
01' ... More maybe on the DL, a little less at LB, and less in the secondary.
... just my generalizations.

I love the fact that we are full of arguments around here about who will "start". We have guys in the 2 and 3 deep ready to play winning SEC ball. What Butch has wrought is honestly amazing.

You get that many players running twisting with cleats, you going to get divots made. Grounds keeps will replace what he can, pour seed and sand, get the big roller going over it. Water until good and soaked. Then we good.

Grounds keepers may get recruited over if the field is a mess again this year

Whats the feeling on justin martin? He was playing solid last year. Haven't noticed his name much it doesn't seem.

I hope it's just a ploy by coaches to keep Moseley from transferring.

Martin was so much better than him last year that I refuse to believe he's getting beat out.

I laughed when I read his comment

Thought the same thing. He can't be recruited over by a guy who got here a year before he did....who was the same guy he put on the bench last year once he got healthy.

Buchanan is running with the 2's. Martin has been mentioned very little this camp.

I don't understand why you guys are struggling with this. Of course I wasn't saying he was recruited over by Moseley.

And no, Martin does not "have NFL written all over him." That's absurd.

Shoop says Emmanuel Moseley and Justin Martin are going back and forth in that corner battle. Both had INTs in last night's practice.

This.

Seems like he's been recruited over.

What? Lol.

You recruit over ineffective players. Martin is one of our most talented players.

I would argue Martin was better in coverage last year than Sutton who got beat more than we're used to.

I still think he starts opening game. No way the coaches can let Moseley jump him after the disaster of a season he had last year.

I firmly believe Kendrick and Moseley are getting all this preseason love from the coaches to keep them from transferring. Both the tackle and corner positions are set in my mind.

Neither of those guys will be playing over Martin this year.

I think it has more to say about how much Mosely has improved this off season. He's not stepping aside without putting up a fight. I love the competition.

I don't doubt that. I just think it's moreso the staff wanting to keep good players stuck behind better players from transferring.

If Moseley was told he's no better than the #3 outside corner he might have transferred. This "competition" keeps everyone here.

Not sure if I ever seen anything else on Evan berry but heard the reports last week that he tore his ACL. glad butch put those rumors to rest and that he'll be back by the end of the week.

If by reports you mean me making a funny post, then yes the reports said he tore his ACL.

Just hearing a good bit more about Buchanan than Martin.

And I'm sorry, did I read that correctly, Justin Martin has NFL written all over him? Surely you're referring to "NFL" tattoos right?

Justin Martin plays the DB position as fluid and naturally as anyone in the game. He makes it look effortless. He absolutely looks like an NFL caliber player to me.

That would be a knock on our previous DC.

So the Dobbs "more air under ball" comment... Do you think that means more touch like over shoulder or just higher ball flight in general? We all know how throws in open can be dangerous. Safeties love em.

Yes, But more arc on the ball benefits the WR not the DB...
Been waiting on him adding my arc on his throws.

I know Fingers usually starts these but I don't see one yet that's up for today's practice so I'll start this one (unless Fingers has one then just merge this). But, we just got done filming and seeing practice so here are my HKV media room observations:

-First, practice was in Neyland (it was glorious and magnificent) tonight but I didn't know that so I had to run across G-10. Luckily, I only missed the first period. However, we were told we had periods 1-4 to film, yet Butch decided at the last second to close period 4 from filming.

-I know the field hasn't been used really, but it is looking great.

-The QBs and WRs were looking pretty good. Guarantano was really impressing me. He was throwing with good velocity and accuracy. Tyler Byrd is still a fast dude. I saw Jennings and Malone each make an athletic grab in the endzone. They were practicing endzone throws from about the 20 with the slots going across into motion.

-From what I could see, the starting O line will look to be Richmond, Robertson, Thomas, Kendrick, Hall

Once again, I didn't get to see much

You're going to get the FINGER!

My observation on reports based off last year.. The coaches move players all over in their respective positions to gain them experience and reps. I do not not get hyped about who might be a "starter" under CBJ, because you will see almost all play, depending on match ups and all.. The more names we hear during camp the better. You will also notice, we are hearing more about new comers rather than players already in the program.. I noticed this last year.. Hype for recruiting maybe?

Kendriick is the 6th man.. G only... Same as Crowder last year

Oline gave up a ton of sacks.
I'm worried about the oline or that defensive front is going to be nasty..

HKV, how long is each period that you get to watch? I never can tell from the videos. Just wondering how much of what you shoot we end up seeing, and why the limit? I know butch says what periods you can but of those who decides what we see

Just depends. The periods all have a time limit and is usually somewhere between 8-10 minutes. However, there are times when the period still has 2 or 3 minutes left and Butch will end it early. On average, we get to see about 4 periods of practice, so maybe about 20-30 minutes worth. But there's usually at least 1 period where he says we can't film. Really, it's just whatever he decides. Just like this past Sunday's practice was supposed to have a few periods open to media, but then sometime last week he decided to close it.
