7-3 QB Play Aight

If we won those 2 games we would be 7-3.

I STILL cannot get over this. We had NO business losing those games. We would be 7-3 now, looking at probably no worse than 8-4 (strong chance of 9-3) and a quality bowl (not the Vagasil BigBoy Mowers Bowl in Shreveport, or the equiv).

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Yes he was.
No, Trevor Lawrence was never committed to Tennessee. He grew up liking Tennessee, but never committed to us.
Tajh Boyd did commit to Tennessee, but Kiffin told him that he did not fit his system, so he went to Clemson.

Could we actually compete in a big bowl?

If Bituli plays we don't lose those games.
I can't count how many times I have said this to people who want to talk about the QBs. With an objective eye the offense has been pretty productive overall. In those first two losses we basically scored 4 tds, we gave up 4+ and 5+. It could be argued that the offense was better in the first two games than it was in some our wins of late. Inexperience and key personnel not playing led to the early defensive struggles. I believe the greatest factor in the team's suprising turn of fortunes is due to the dramtically improved defense.

Ok. I will admit, after the GS and BYU loses I thought we made a major mistake hiring a Bama coach. But I was wrong, think about this. If we won those 2 games we would be 7-3. What if, what if, Jim Chaney had a QB like Tua or Trevor Lawrence (had a verbal commitment to Vols) this year. Boys and girls, if we only had those two things, I truly believe we would be playing LSU for the SEC Championship. Yes even this season.

I truly believe Couch Pruitt is the man for the job. Someone had me thinking brick by brick. But I would much rather have some humble cornbread, aight!
The Vols were without 4 starters on defense for those two games.. If the defense played the first two games like the last several.. UT would have won.. The offense had its issues.. But today's UT defense would have shut those 2 teams down I do believe..

Record in 2020 will be QB dependent. We'll have a good defense and a solid OL that should net us 6-7 wins. having Florida, Mizzou, and Kentucky at home certainly helps during SEC play, but none of those games are guaranteed. You would hope Vandy and Arkansas are wins given their current states. South Carolina is a toss up at this point. Gonna have to upset Florida, UGA, Bama, or OU in order to get at least 9 wins. 9 wins is doable, but it's best to temper expectations. 8 wins should be the goal with 9 wins or more being a huge success.

Maybe OU without Jalen Hurts. We owe the SOBs for the Baker Mayfield debutante party.

We were considered the leader for Trevor at one point, that was purely speculative and before the Butch debacle. He grew up in a family of Tennessee fans and Peyton was his favorite QB. Think the relations with Tee Higgins were in our favor at the time, too - we were on the brink of landing some really great talent. Don't think he ever outright said we were his leader but if we parted ways with Butch sooner I think we would've had a really good shot there.

Fact is they didn't beat BYU or GA ST and there isn't a Trevor Lawrence or Tua on the horizon at QB.

Revisionist history through what ifs and proclaiming Pruitt The Man isn't really going to change things.

Bailey may be really good but both those guys are likely high 1st round NFL picks. Those don't come around often.

It's simple really, Pruitt overlooked Ga. State; he pretty much admitted it. I was at the game. We tried to play way too many kids, especially on defense. Our staff thought we'd show up and win with superior athletes. We played 2, 3, and 4 people at each position on defense. When you do that, you can't scheme your opponent; you have to stay in basic alignments, which works in your opponent's favor.

Also, our QB misses at least 2-3 TD's on seam routes. Simply didn't see the open receivers. The interception he throws into triple coverage early in the third quarter was, simply put, rotten QB play.

If our coaches had schemed them like a normal opponent, Bituli plays, and our QB plays just average and not pitiful, we probably win by the predicted point spread. The good news is, our staff learned a tough lesson; I'd bet a Pruitt coached Tennessee team will never lose to an inferior opponent again...........ever.
Didn't it come out as fact via player comments after the game that they only spent a day or two on Georgia St tape? Most of the film study the week before the game was about BYU. DeAndre Johnson and JG both said that Georgia St was doing all sorts of things that "didn't show up on tape." That's likely because they watched just a few snippets of their body of work.

Pruitt wildly overestimated the strength of his team and was absolutely burned. That had to be, and hopefully was, a really humbling experience for him. He ain't at Alabama anymore.

Look in front of you, not behind. Get over it, or go root for another team.

Pruitt is proving himself and I’ve been impressed after the way we started. That said, I wouldn’t expect 10-2 next year. Losing JJ and Calloway will be huge. How much Palmer, B Johnson, and Tillman step up will determine our success imo. I’m looking at 8-4
Add Keyton and Gibbs to that list of wideouts. Gibbs is probably the most athletic reciever we have honestly. I think we'll still be pretty good there, but not quite as good, you don't just replace jj and Callaway.

It was a freshmen laden team and I think the GAST players had more experience. Even at a lower division level, experience counts. And we aren't the only SEC that our arses kicked by a high school schoolyard bully team.
They're the same division as us. Still insane that they hung 38 on us even if it was the opener.

I've argued against the notion they would have won that game solely with better QB play, but I was not talking about if the better QB play was Lawrence or Tua or Burrow lol
