For those of us who are scared to enter and/or have been chased off from the recruiting forum, I just wanted to give a shout out to Heupel and staff. Nice little 5 commits in 5 days going on. And I'd like think all 3 (Bey, Anderson, Golston) should be getting that 4* soon.

For those of y'all that don't know, recruits with an 89 on 247 are pretty much always 4 stars. Also Legend Bey is a 4 star on the on3 composite rating and runs a freakin 10.21 100 meter dash. Thats faster than squirrel white who was previously the fastest timed 100 meter dash we had on record for a commit at Tennessee. Golston is also a 4 star on multiple sites im pretty sure

Edit: I was wrong about the 100 meter. I know nothing

Public Service Announcement: don't let anybody chase you away from the RF. I have probably about 3,000 of my all-time 11,000 plus VN posts over in the RF forum and while there is a Circle Jerk gang over there that reflexively attacks any post not pumping maximum sunshine, don't let those guys run you off. There are alot of good posters over there and good information over, and the Circle Jerk gang doesn't know anymore than anyone else, less actually, remember most of those guys are the ones who hung in with Botch and Beldar until the very end.

Leonard Scott was track speed fast also.

Leonard Scott was a notable "speedster" for the Tennessee Vols football team. He was known for his speed and excelled as a wide receiver and kick returner. He was a successful track athlete and two-time SEC sprint champion in college. He holds the second-highest kickoff return yardage in UT history. After college, Scott went on to become a professional sprinter, competing primarily in the 100 meters, and achieved success including running a sub-10 second 100-meter race and winning a gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in the 60 meters.

Lol!!!! Duly noted!!!!!...........in all fairness I've never had a problem in there when "the door is left open" and I wander in to check on a recruits thread.........but I've seen some hum-dinger blowouts between others that make me get my information and sprint out like I'm an extra in a 90's horror movie.

........granted my information gathering is def. Tom Cruise worthy in there at this point........

But now the important part-

Can he ruin a route or catch a ball without falling on his face? Unlike squirrel.

Do you just hate watch the Vols at this point?
No, I just watch what the most successful teams do and then comment when I see the Vols doing the opposite.

We will NEVER contend for championships this way. Maybe we can lose in the first round of a playoff if we luck out with the schedule, but this is not the path to becoming an elite program. We seem to go after highly ranked quarterbacks and edge rushers, only to jump on whoever is willing to have us like it’s last call at the bar for the rest of the roster.

Yeah yeah I know. The cutoff for 4 stars is 90. What I'm saying is that recruiting rankings this early are usually going to change by end of year. More and more prospects have to be evaluated by more and more analysts/ scouts over the next couple of months before the final ranking. But this early, there's a difference between an 86 3-star and an 89 3 star. 3 star athletes this early on are usually very skilled, very productive high school players who may lack physical tools OR their athleticism hasn't really been evaluated by not going to enough camps/ combines OR playing for a small school. An 89 3 star means they are right on the cusp of getting that 4th star. We get a lot of these guys and they are usually pretty/ really productive players on our roster. So if you have a system that rewards physical traits more often than mental traits, then you want those high 3 star commits early in the recruiting game, because they are physically gifted players who are just starting to get noticed by the evaluators. More often than not they become 4 stars who will have a role on this football team.
Guys like Ricky Gibson, Tyre Weathersby, Jeremiah Telander fit this mold

While I do agree that CJH needs to step up his game on recruiting, I don't think this is the class to complain about. If we get the 5* RB Hiter and flip Keys, this would easily be a top 5 class. We have 8 three stars committed, the current #1 class Texas has 6.

Also, stars aren't everything. The majority of NFL players were 2 and 3 star recruits out of high school. Development, motor, drive play a key here.

Stars are everything. Compare the percentage of 5 stars who make it to the NFL compared to the percentage of 2 and 3 stars who make it. It absolutely hammers home the fact that stars do matter. There are only 130-140 5 stars across college football every year. There are 260 some odd NFL Draft picks. Of course the league isn’t made of up entirely of 5 stars, because there aren’t enough of those to field a whole NFL division, but 5 stars are more represented on rosters than any other tier of player by the percentages.

If you take one player, his star rating doesn’t matter. If you take an entire recruiting class, the amount of 2 and 3 stars determines your ceiling. If a plurality of your recruiting class is 3 stars, you aren’t winning anything of consequence. Our recruiting philosophy has to change.

We have 25 commits so far, 8 are 3 star. And are still in on some 5 stars. We have the 11th ranked class right now. We're where we need to be. We aren't going to recruit like Texas, UGA, Bama until we prove we can take the next step and win on the road.
