Good read from Adam Sparks about 4 possible QBs that we could pursue on the portal. Brendan Sorsby from Cincy, Lagway from Gatorville, Raiola from Cornville and Minchey (TN Born) from The Irish.
We do need a QB with experience. What say you VN??
I’m all about Sorsby. Seems to be the best fit all around. His family is here. One and done.
I wish the courts would go ahead and make the decision to cut JuCo from counting towards ineligibility. Talk about a decision that would create new revenue within the JuCo system and probably reduce a ton of injuries.
If kids are good enough to make it to starting, 2nd, 3rd string status sooner than later by going straight to college, that’s good. They can do that. If they want to go to JuCo and make less money and develop as a human being, and then come to college, they can do that. All have the increased chance of going pro.
Thing is, we are talking about 18 year olds here. Kids develop more quickly mentally and physically than others do and often benefit heavily when going to College due to this reality. Meanwhile others peak later and often end up more talented at their peaks than others who peaked early. The system doesn’t account for this offset in balance.
So when people talk about fairness in allowing 23-24 year olds to play with 18 year olds, they need to consider this very real point. Some 18 year olds are as developed as these older guys, while many are not that eventually will be. And when they are they should be serviceable as opposed to left behind and told they missed the window. The window we created, the window that makes less sense, and the window that could be expanded to benefit everyone involved.
I mean to put things into perspective, we stopped driving nails into people’s foreheads that we deemed insane decades ago. Maybe we need to make some adjustments here too
And to reiterate, I think it would reduce injury by allowing the 18 year olds to enter into JuCo, help develop men and prepare them for the big stage, and create revenue via heavy interest at the JuCo level.
College athletics would see a big jump in talent in the span of about 4 years as well, and you would have fewer guys like JMac riding the line. Also, if they allowed for midseason transfers only from JuCo to the college ranks, that could help universities keep their rosters lighter.
Essentially this creates a system similar to baseball while developing young men along the way and protecting them. JuCo, Mid Major, College, Pros.
