4 Possible QBs from The Portal

One never KNOWS the future but Faizon has the same hype Nico had about him. Great gifts.

There's no "sure thing" QB as Arch should show us: all the tools on paper but not a world beater even with time to grow, learn, stability in his family, etc.

One plays the odds in sports. You recruit those who look good on paper because that gives you the best chance of success.
Ok. You still didn't answer my question. Jackson Arnold was also supposed to be a great QB, hasn't happened yet. We Do Not Know what Fazion will be

That's recruiting. OF COURSE YOU DON'T KNOW THE FUTURE IN ANYTHING.

Why'd you buy that Honda Accord? In part because they've been reliable historically...... and you show up and say, yeah but you don't know THIS Honda Accord will be reliable.

Yes. You win. I don't. I play the odds that it will be. Just as we do with Faizon Brandon.

Good read from Adam Sparks about 4 possible QBs that we could pursue on the portal. Brendan Sorsby from Cincy, Lagway from Gatorville, Raiola from Cornville and Minchey (TN Born) from The Irish.

We do need a QB with experience. What say you VN??

I’m all about Sorsby. Seems to be the best fit all around. His family is here. One and done.

I wish the courts would go ahead and make the decision to cut JuCo from counting towards ineligibility. Talk about a decision that would create new revenue within the JuCo system and probably reduce a ton of injuries.

If kids are good enough to make it to starting, 2nd, 3rd string status sooner than later by going straight to college, that’s good. They can do that. If they want to go to JuCo and make less money and develop as a human being, and then come to college, they can do that. All have the increased chance of going pro.

Thing is, we are talking about 18 year olds here. Kids develop more quickly mentally and physically than others do and often benefit heavily when going to College due to this reality. Meanwhile others peak later and often end up more talented at their peaks than others who peaked early. The system doesn’t account for this offset in balance.

So when people talk about fairness in allowing 23-24 year olds to play with 18 year olds, they need to consider this very real point. Some 18 year olds are as developed as these older guys, while many are not that eventually will be. And when they are they should be serviceable as opposed to left behind and told they missed the window. The window we created, the window that makes less sense, and the window that could be expanded to benefit everyone involved.

I mean to put things into perspective, we stopped driving nails into people’s foreheads that we deemed insane decades ago. Maybe we need to make some adjustments here too 😂

And to reiterate, I think it would reduce injury by allowing the 18 year olds to enter into JuCo, help develop men and prepare them for the big stage, and create revenue via heavy interest at the JuCo level.

College athletics would see a big jump in talent in the span of about 4 years as well, and you would have fewer guys like JMac riding the line. Also, if they allowed for midseason transfers only from JuCo to the college ranks, that could help universities keep their rosters lighter.

Essentially this creates a system similar to baseball while developing young men along the way and protecting them. JuCo, Mid Major, College, Pros.

Shut it down. Got the perfect portal QB.

TJ Finley, 6’7” and 250 lbs., is applying for a medical redshirt so he can play for his 7th school in 7 years.

Previously, he was QB1 at LSU, Auburn, the Texas State Armadillos, Western Kentucky, and Georgia State.

He also attended Tulane in early 2025 until April when he was arrested for possessing/driving a stolen pickup truck. (Lawyer says he was duped into buying a hot used vehicle online. I blame Tulane boosters for not getting Finley a suitable new ride.)

Great size, good stats, and a wealth of experience playing for 7 prior Offensive Coordinators (including 2 at Auburn).

Although this puts CJH squarely between a rock and hard place, I would take Sorsby. If Sorsby is analyzing his NFL stock right now, he'll more than likely be gone after next season thus opening up the #1 spot for the other two to compete for (and satisfying their desire for an opportunity). The Nebraska kid also sounds promising, but I'm concerned with the ripple effect with the 2 QBs that are staying as he could stay for 2 years.
Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby, please!

Well, you’re making the case to just stop signing high school QBs and fill it through the portal every year. It’s not a terrible strategy
Why not send recruit QBs and lineman to a small school for a 1-2 yrs and then bring them on campus. Create your own farm system so to speak. This kind of use to be done with community colleges.

Actually yeah.

Hes acquired all that knowledge from having to learn those playbooks . He can step right into coaching and bet the 3rd QB his last year

Totally and completely discouraging list outside of scorsby. Hope we can do better than those other three. Want no part of Lagway.

So have we give up on us coaching up a qb?
We just tweak them from here on out?
I would have like to us gone with the two we had took our lumps and we would have been a better place today.
Ricky Bobby says if you ain't first your last.
Based on what our staff has done with recruited QBs, I'd take my chances with an older, developed guy from the portal.

G-Mac apparently is still built like Manute Bol, you never want to rely on a freshman, as far as Faizon starting, and Merklinger is probably not an SEC caliber starter.

Raiola broke his leg in game 9, but that's normally a 3 month type injury to get back into strength training for the leg. I like that he completed 72 percent of his passes and has 22 starts under his belt in a major conference. His biggest negative, he doesn't run at all and takes a lot of sacks. 54 in two years and he has -156 rushing yards on 96 carries.

Takes time to coach up. No team has time today. Gotta win now. That is why we will probably find a QB that can come in, like Joey did this year, and be ready to play on day one.
