Maybe you don't see it that way, but that is how it comes off by listing all of his shortcomings as what seems like reasoning to justify the idea he is overpaid or doesn't deserve his salary.
Other than that, I agree with your overall point that we seemingly refuse to pay upfront for football success. We hire from the bargain bin and then wait to reward them after success, but that has been the case for basketball, too. Barnes was a slight exception, but the $2 million we paid him upfront wasn't exorbitant. It wasn't until he experienced high level success and a possible exit to UCLA did we reward him handsomely. Same with Pearl 12 years ago. We keep hoping to find the football version of Bruce Pearl from the bargain bin.
