3 Pure Point Guards?

Jason Kidd was the best one in the last two decades.

Paul, Billups, Calderon, Nash, Williams, Rondo, and Miller are some of the only pure ones I can think of.

FYP

BTW, speaking of pure PG, WTF happened to the one-handed pass?

Stockton was the master of the one-handed pass. I have never seen a guy do it like that. He was amazingly accurate and there was so much zip on the ball. The real benefit to the one-handed pass is that the setup looks like a regular dribbling move compared to the two-handed pass almost everyone uses. That fraction of a second you save is pivotal. If you're the defender the ball is halfway to your man before you've even determined that Stockton wasn't doing a crossover.

Lots o' examples:

Not sure why everybody keeps leaving Rubio off, one of the, if not the purest PGs in the league.

I could see why they'd leave him off a list of winners though. Just saw his comments a minute ago and wow...

It's playoffs or bust?

RR: Too early to say if the playoffs are the goal. Let's see how things go in training camp and how the new pieces fit in. Then we'll see how things evolve during the season, it's too early to talk about playoffs.

He's not sure if making the playoffs is a goal for the team?

What kind of loser talk is that? lol

Losing AK 47 was huge, but maybe Love will be healthy this year.

Yeah.

Still, I feel like it's a pretty easy answer to say "Yeah, the goal is to make the playoffs". Even if a player is thought to be on the worst team in the league, I feel like they'd still set a goal of making the playoffs. Sometimes teams squeak in with losing records. I

I'd definitely plan on being one of the 8 in as opposed to one of the 7 out if I were a player. His comments don't come off as competitive at all.

I see one-handed bounce passes but other than that I can't say I know any players in particular that use one-handed passes frequently.

White Chocolate threw a mean one handed pass, so does Rubio, Rondo and Nash. Style of play and handle dictate that as much as anything. Any PG worth a crap isn't going to do a 2 hand chest pass on a pick n roll, same for being on a fastbreak, or guys that are cutting. As a PG you keep the ball alive and all those work better. The NBA is a lot different than back then, tons of one on one isos. Not a lot of pick n rolls, which if ran correctly is almost impossible to stop. Not a lot of back picks or curls. Stockton very very.rarely picked up his dribble which allowed him to execute these things perfectly. I see too many guys drive inside, pick up their dribble and get stuck. Or pick it up at the top of the key anticipating cuts. Its just bad basketball IQ and fundamentals. IMO You PG's reading this...keep your fawking dribble alive! Lol

Edit: Court Vision is a must as well. You have to be able to survey the whole court in a split second, and react quickly to what is happening.

I played a lot of point guard through high school. Coaches told me the only thing they wanted me to do was not pick up my dribble and get the better players (aka the black people. #truestory) involved.

Solid post jerry.

I played PG as well, had a lot of playground in me. And passing was my love, I couldn't dunk very well, and I wanted to make people go "wtf!" So I developed a great handle and threw crazy passes, I rarely threw a 2 handed pass they just were not flashy. Lol

I played PG as a kid, but when I got into my late teens and adulthood, I was a tweener. Never a consistent shooter I was relegated to being the 6' 2" guy trying to guard the 6' 6" center on the other team. I actually did pretty well defensively and was a good rebounder. Offensively I was a good passer, but that's about it. I felt like I was a really good perimeter defender based on my ability to deny ball.

Defense was my passion, I felt like everyone can score it's more impressive to lock up a scorer. So I always guarded the best perimeter player. I was a streaky shooter at best, anyone that knew me would sag off of me and let me shoot. Pretty quick first step, I rarely shot much if it wasn't off a drive. I miss basketball, stupid old age.

I was always someone the coaches put in because they knew I was good all-around. Good rebounding for a guard, good defense, good shooting. Not great in anything but not bad in anything (if I had to pick a weakness it would be shooting).

Really wish I played in college lulz.

Jerry, you could dunk? Making me jelly haha. I'm like 2-3 inches away from dunking when I jump. Should spend more time working on my vert.

Yeah I could dunk one handed pretty regularly, helps that I have big hands for a guy 5'11. Had two in game dunks in high school, I went nutts both times. Lol The best thing I found was squatting in a pool of water and then jumping out of it helped the most.

I tried dunking once in game (idk what I was thinking) and got it blocked at the rim by a 6'7 guy. Never trying that shizz again lulz.

Only time I went crazy on the court was when I blocked the shizz outta some guy who was like 6'4. Everybody in the gym was like "wtf" and laffed so hard at it. Best memory of basketball.

Dude I was a trash talker, I know surprise, but I literally never shut up. I remember a 3 on 3 tourney, I was 17 this kid had been talking smack leading up to the tourney about how he was going to light me up. Smaller town and I had a Rep at the project courts, so this happened frequently. Anyway I found out where his parents were in the crowd. I preceded to embarrass this kid and as I did I was talking to his parents about it. Talking all kinds of craziness, I honestly thought his dad was going to kick my teeth in. Lol

I trashed talked too, but not a lot. I got trashed talk pretty much every game too and I liked to annoy others. I liked to be like Aaron Craft and pester the other guards. I remember one game where I probably had 8-10 steals vs the other point guard. He was so pissed and I was laughing my ass off the whole game. I let my game talk. Usually I just played a solid game and ignored the idiots.

I talked to frustrate people, plus it amped me up if someone talked back. And I would find something to make you, usually mad enough to fight me, then I had you. I'd talk about your mom your dad your sister that I slept with, your baby with the wonky eye. I was a deek for real, big GP and Reggie fan. We played in a summer league and the team we played brought a camera to record it. I dropped like 67 talking the whole way. I played better with pressure. After the game I ran up grabbed the camera and started thanking people for the win. They were heated, and never brought the camera back. Lol

I never played much outside of school (in my personal opinion I could have been a lot better) but one of the few times I played in a pick up game vs some college guys at the blue courts. They were talking trash to me for the whole game until I broke some guys ankles and made him look stupid. After that they shut up.

Oh, and I was actually called "Nash" in high school. Probably more for the whiteness that the skill, but it made me happy lol.

Lol My nickname was Spider Monkey, cause I was so disruptive defensively. Breaking ankles was awesome. We used to play sun up to sun down at the projects. Sometimes we would surround the court with our cat lights on so we could see after dark. I got alot of girls from playing and lost a lot of girls from playing. I'd be hanging with a girl my buddies would call to.play and I'd just leave. Lol

I actually played with a lot of girls that were really good. Some of them have gone on to college (a couple d-1 I think).

Best memory vs a girl was when the sub teacher (probably early 20s and really hot) in my gym class played with all of us (like 7 guys). I guarded her and it was awesome posting her up.

Let me add that she smelled really good and was a very physical player. Got her number after the class and we talked a bit. Miss her cause I don't meet many girls that were competitive like her.

One of the toughest people I ever played with was a girl, she would throw an elbow straight in your face. Caught an elbow that split her open once and kept playing. And she was a 9 at least, I was so.confused. lol

Rondo. I guess. He is pretty bad at shooting and his bad attitude costs his team W's, so that might be pure something.
