3 getable coaches

There are 3 coaches that would be a considerable upgrade that are within reach money-wise. Mike Norvell makes less than 2 million , we could double that. James Franklin has a cheap buyout and Bobby Petrino is reportedly not happy at Louisville. I dont believe that Gruden would give up his cushy, well-paid TV gig to come into the pressure cooker world of SEC coaching. Also, I cant see Chip Kelly in Knoxville, because of his personality. Any one of the first 3 would be a giant improvement, although BP does have baggage.

It's funny, to me -- I looked at your thread title, and instantly starting singing (to the tune of Three Blind Mice) "Three Gettable Coaches, Three Gettable Coaches...See how They _ See how They _ ... ."

So, I'm anxious to see, how these 3, or other coaches, evaluate their personal potential to steer the Tennessee football program under the watchful leadership Mr. John Carrie.

It's been stated and it's been proven that Petersen isn't happy at Washington he's upset about lack of passion up there, upset about being stuck on late night games where east coast don't watch, there's dis content between he and the current administration. So would he take this job idk probably not but to say it's stupid or idiotic to reach out that alone is pure ignorant.

Patterson has been interested in this job multiple times but has been turned away would he come now after being turned down idk. But the fact he's talking about us and when asked if he would leave here said never say never. Plus he does great in his division and conference but he would have better chance at Natty with us than there. So once again would he take this job idk but it's not idiotic to reach out.

It amazes me how much vol on vol hate goes on in here. We all love our Vols and want the best for the program and to win again. Difference of opinion is normal but to talk down or bash someone is just ignorant.

How is Norvell any more of a sure thing than Butch was at his career stage? Why in the world would Franklin leave Penn State? And why in the world would anyone want that sleaze bag Petrino associated with UT football?

Norvell does have Power Five experience as a coordinator. Apparently TN doesn't think it's important, but some think P5 experience is important.

He's frustrated with the PAC 12 start times because of a lack of exposure for his team. That's a far cry from thinking he'd be interested in leaving, especially for a dumpster fire like us.

To be honest, after reading John Currie's email response to Antone Davis' email, I'm not convinced that Currie is even going to make a change. The attitude shown was one of being completely out of touch with the players, alumni and fanbase.

Increased salary is a great incentive. There are probably quite a few other reasons that either of those coaches would listen.

This is the one thing I keep seeing that I don't understand. Why shouldn't we expect to, at a minimum, compete for the SEC East most years? We should NEVER finish below third in the East. Even so, we have had only one winning record in conference in the past 10 years.

Even for the happy with mediocre Vol fans, that should be unacceptable.

The school does not have 'unrealistic expectations'.
It was reported that the GA loss was it's worst home loss for Tennessee since 1905. And Butch Jones appears to be no closer to being fired than he was last year after the Vandy loss. As long as 95.5K keep showing up for the So. Miss game the Administration is happy.

Secondly, Petersen’s only complaint is about new coverage over Pac12 football. He loves his current gig. Once again they have no incentive to leave current jobs

We can’t outbid TCU and Washington for each of their coaches. Sure we could fork over 20-25 Million if we really wanted too but we all know that we aren’t going to pay them north of 10 Million bucks.

We could outbid them. We have one of the most profitable athletic departments. Neither are making more than $5MM annually right now. And it's not just about money anyway. There might be conflict with school, AD, admin, conference commissioners, etc.

We have a coach that took a team from Dooley to 7-5, 9-4, 9-4, tied for 2nd the past 2 years in the SEC East (in an era of Saban and Alabama being written as probably the greatest football program in American history) and has won 3 straight bowl games. For the first time in 6 years, he has an off year and he must be beheaded.

TCU just built a statue of G-Patt. There's no health incentive to leave TCU for UT's fanbase and village idiots.

He's on pace to rule the Big 12 for the next 3-4 seasons. So there is no scheduling/competition incentive to leave TCU for UT.


If UT came calling and said we will double your salary, paying him 10 million, TCU could easily match that. So there is no financial incentive to leave TCU for UT.

Only way UT outbids TCU, and UW for Petersen, is if we were talking to them and offering to triple their salary.
