No one we hire is going to be a for sure homerun hire . So i think both Kiffin and Kelly are as equal as anyone else we hire . Its all kinda of a crap shoot. I just think we could get a favorable contract with Kiffin .
Gruden himself said he listened in 12. Has said this year he wants to coach again, that he "still has the fire". His son attends UT. His wife's whole family lives here. I'm not sure why some people think there is 0% chance at him?
There are 3 coaches that would be a considerable upgrade that are within reach money-wise. Mike Norvell makes less than 2 million , we could double that. James Franklin has a cheap buyout and Bobby Petrino is reportedly not happy at Louisville. I dont believe that Gruden would give up his cushy, well-paid TV gig to come into the pressure cooker world of SEC coaching. Also, I cant see Chip Kelly in Knoxville, because of his personality. Any one of the first 3 would be a giant improvement, although BP does have baggage.
Surely, no one is at the Bobby Petrino level of desperation.

I hope that John Currie remembers what some of you have forgotten about Kiffin: the sociopathic lying, the appearance (if not reality) of running a Vol hostess God-only-knows-what, the apartment, the abandoned wrecked car, the slow playing to keep it close against Florida, the horrible mismanagement of the end of the Alabama game to play for a 45 yd field goal, 7-6 record, the top 10 class that produced more felons than graduates, the intentional NCAA violations, the departure, swiping UT commitments, the woeful job he did at USC, etc. Rehiring Kiffin would be akin to battered spouse syndrome.

The thing is there are alot of really good getable coaches out there that are proven winners, the problem is not, is there interest. I believe there are good coaches who are interested.
The problem lies in our administration and boosters. And there lack of vision and effort. If they truly wanted to win and would pony up the money and give up control.
Some of these coaches yal scoff at would be very viable options.
I truly believe Patterson would listen, I think Petersen would listen, I believe one could argue for Frost were better job than Nebraska or FL. If you go make a serious offer you can get a good coach.
We need to go out to the A list options spend 6-9mil/year on coach, give big budget for staff and control and you'll get a winner.
But no confident they do that but hoping

How is Norvell any more of a sure thing than Butch was at his career stage? Why in the world would Franklin leave Penn State? And why in the world would anyone want that sleaze bag Petrino associated with UT football?
Edit to say that I think Franklin would be an awesome get, but don't see it as possible.

I get the dislike for what he did to falcons....seriously people are hung up on that....smh...stupid....and what he did at arky was very immature but for most to act like man can't coach is ridiculous....he had minimal talent there was pretty much top ten team last two years and gave bama all they could handle for most part at arky.....with minimal talent

If Norvell is in the top three, then let's just shut down the football program. To be honest, after reading John Currie's email response to Antone Davis' email, I'm not convinced that Currie is even going to make a change. The attitude shown was one of being completely out of touch with the players, alumni and fanbase.
I must've missed the response. What did he say?
