Now looks like Brown out of Alabama will commit, because Mullen is headed to Penn State.

I'm impressed with his recruiting and hopefully he can finish out this class nicely. The three amigos would sure go a long way toward accomplishing that. However, I must admit that I'm just as weary of Dooley's ability to win as many of those in the football forum. I just see firing him after two years as an option.

I can see how the loss to KY really hurt alot of UT fans, but I think its because this year was so full of frustration. We had injury after injury and knew that some games we were competitive in and saw flashes of a team that could win on any given saturday. I just think it will take time for the loss to fade away, and when Dooley brings in the big guns, and tweaks staff changes, it will be for the better. He does deserve another year. I dont care how good of an up and coming coach Sumlin is, that would be a PR disaster for UT.

I agree with you on the importance of talent, I just think the benefits of bowl practice and the momentum of a possible bowl win would have gone a long way toward setting the table for next year.

Then again, I can remember seasons when that momentum didn't carry over.

I was at UT in 2005 when we were preseason #3. That was suppose to be our year, talent everywhere on that team, and we flopped. But that's life.

I have very little direct knowledge at all. I just read alot of different stuff... apply some experience and logic... and state my opinions. It works most of the time.

My guess is that they just flat out need them. I think they missed on someone they wanted last year. The only scholarship guys coming back next fall who are true RB's are Lane and Smith, right? Toney might keep helping a little but I think most teams have 5+ scholarship RB's on the roster.

It didn't help that some were calling for an eastern division championship after the Cincinnati win. Those people are suffering a double dose of letdown.

We will have Lane, Smith, Hill, Cross, Toney, Watson, and now Brown (not for sure yet but looks like its going to be us.)

Neal is rumored to transfer so that opens a spot along with Poole leaving. I don't see 7 RB's being on scholarship that would be insane.

Yeah, that's one that came to mind. If I'm remembering correctly, we had just destroyed A&M in the Cotton Bowl the prior season.

Yea I was certainly optimistic at that point, yet I truly didn't know what the season held for the Vols. Kinda weird how it all turned at Florida.

The extra practice might have helped. OTOH, this was a beat up football team. You had a thin roster of young guys who seemed to just be physically done. I'm not sure it wasn't a wash.

If Jacobs, Autry, and Sentimore are all EE, that would be one of the biggest gets in a long time for the Vols.

I'd hate to see that. I have changed my opinion. He showed flashes that made me think he could have a future at RB.

Did any of us really think in terms of "what if" Hunter gets hurt? I know I didn't. I was starting to think there was a chance to make some serious noise with the points Bray, Hunter, and Rogers were putting on the board.

Yea if I was Dooley, I would have a nice chat with him to try to sway him. I don't think this is set in stone, but I certainly could see how Neal would want to, given his criticism by Dooley on several occasions. Neal is elite talent, and needs to push through here and become that breakout player like he showed at Kentucky. I couldn't believe his speed.

Never even crossed my mind. I'm a medical student, and by all accounts, I saw how physically stronger Hunter was from this season to last season. His build was bigger and I really felt he wasn't headed for some freak thing like an ACL tear. Now from what I know, ACL tears are common in athletes who hypertrophy their muscles, causing these injuries because of shear forces greater than the ligament can withstand. This is common in body building and in other football situations, such as a pectoral muscle tear. I just never thought he was one to have such a tear, given his athleticism and track career, it seemed if it was going to happen it would have happened long before he ever came to UT.

Someone I can't recall, mentioned that Neal wanted to transfer. I believe it was in the thread titled..."weather this storm." Matt who is a credible poster was talking about Neal and Nance transferring. I was surprised Neal's name was brought up, given his late success.
