Jeremy Pruitt is adding a veteran name to his coaching staff. Kevin Steele, the former Auburn defensive coordinator who played for Tennessee during the Johnny Majors era and coached for the Vols alongside Phillip Fulmer, has agreed to join Tennessee's coaching staff.

Sources told GoVols247 that paperwork is expected to be completed on the deal as early as Tuesday. GoVols247's Patrick Brown reported Monday that the Vols were in discussion with Steele, with the situation trending toward Steele joining Pruitt's staff in a non-coordinator role.

Are you sure?
I can assure you there is no covert staff being assembled behind the scenes with a head coach already in place

It had been reported that Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt did not have the authority from UT to hire an assistant considering UT is undergoing an internal investigation from its compliance office for potential NCAA recruiting violations.
While sources said UT approved the hiring of Steele, it is not known if Pruitt has the clearance to hire an offensive line coach after Will Friend left in late December.
Also, Steele would be retained even if UT and Pruitt part ways, sources said.

Thats from Hyam's reporting. Also says the same in ESPN.com.

It means Fulmer just hired our next head coach wether he takes over this year or next. If and when Pruitt is fired Steele will take over. If nothing comes of the investigation Pruitt gets at least next year If something is found Pruitt is gone and Steel is on staff, familiar with the program and his asistants and we don't skip a beat. Fulmer is covering his ass big time and putting Pruitt on notice to win or leave and no monkey business with recruits. Fulmer maybe a Tennessee hillbilly but he is not a dumb hillbilly.
