247: Pruitt Contemplating Change at QB

Eh. He'll put in JG with the reason being, "He gives us the best chance". Not, "He's the best QB on the team".

I'm tired of hearing about these chances of winning. What are they this week with JG, 4? 3, less? They can't be much lower with anyone else. Here's what we know about these chances, every week. They never go up with JG. Play any team you want to pick, 10 times in a row with JG as your QB. His win probability would remain constant, more likely drop, from week to week. Put BM, or HB in for those same games in place of. Those percentages go up.

Pruitt is that guy who says I'm hungry today, kill the hen and let's eat. He's not the guy who sees that the hen would be better left to live and lay some eggs and make more chickens. You may go hungry for a game or two, but once these young guys get some game time in, they'll start feeding victories. Sitting them on the bench does nothing since our QB coach can't develop them.

Maybe. I don't truly know. It wasn't a factor before the '19 season. I think this all goes back to a strategic decision Pruitt made to invest in JG in January '19. That was a turning point. I don't even fault Pruitt for going with a talented, experienced guy without knowing his limitations. I fault him for being so hard headed that he stuck with him after the VU and IU games.
Had Covid 19 not happened it would have been interesting to see what might have happened with the QB position. May not have changed anything but I do think Maurer and Bailey both would have been much more prepared to take over for JG whether that was at the beginning of the year or 2 or 3 games in for sure.

Pruitt has forced Chaney and Weinke to work with and play JG. I do not believe either would have chosen JG if given an actual choice.

They have been limited as to how much they were able to prepare the others. They had to put time into JG hoping to make him successful.
pays him over a million to cuff him....gtfoh

Do these backup QBs not try to win the job?

I don't understand what's going on here, every starting position should be a competition at this point.
i don’t know if they are given the opportunity. Jordan Rodgers said on air during the KY game that Bailey had 4 snaps in camp and they were pretty bad so Pruitt shelved him.

See, Pruitt knows exactly what he’s doing:)

The offense seemed to be charged up when Maurer played and he's very talented but apparently he's made of glass.
I dont know this for sure and I am no doctor, but from what I have looked up its much easier to get a repeat concussion after your first one. Its possible that he wasn't healed up completely after he got the first one. His first one was rough if I remember correctly (against MSST?). I obviously can't say for sure though.

Yes. It was Miss St. but it wasn’t healed before Alabama. The shot to the head re injured the same concussion that was already there. People think it was 2 because Pruitt spoke too soon at the post game presser and called it a second. Bottom line.... he shouldn’t have played against Alabama to begin with.

Maurer absent the concussion likely would have finished the year as starter. After the UGA game, Pruitt acted like it was obvious that Maurer was the new starter.

Shrout got yanked last year and last week because he still hasn't mastered the plays. In addition to making a bad read and throwing into coverage... Pruitt said he also forgot to send one of the guys in motion which contributed to the pick.

I like his arm but he seems to be way behind in knowledge of the O.

Pruitt needs to relax a bit. Any change at QB will bring 1st time starter nerves. Nerves are real, but JG has zero upside. this is about playing the guy who will settle in, begin to get comfortable, make a few mistakes, but will ultimately have much greater upside. Hell, I will take mistakes due to nerves over mistakes due to a 5th year starter who continually makes the same mistakes.

So you mean there’s a possibility that I’m NOT lying about what I seen personally?
Just relax lol, ever since the Gruden threads no one speaks about anything they know. Unless you can triple verify that in fact water is wet, your going to get blasted.

Speak your truth and move on.

Actually.......🤔. Now that you bring it up, no one has blasted me in a while. Of course there’s a chosen few but not too much.

Where is your evidence of this ?

Well.. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re all busy watching our football program burn to the ground lol.
I have and I’m no less pissed. I’m beginning to think Pruitt is a cancer because his pride won’t allow him to accept that he doesn’t know what he thinks he does. If he doesn’t learn quickly to let his coaches do THEIR jobs, he’ll be looking himself before he knows it. I think VN is the most powerful fan base in the country and I can see he done pissed it off.

Nah, from everything you hear, he’s hard to work for but he’s not a psychopath. He treats people behind the scenes very well, I think he just needs to find his way of going about his business. You hear it all the time with Saban assistants, their all control freaks because that’s what they’ve watched him do.

You can get away with that when you win, not when your getting housed by Kentucky

Maurer and Shrout neither one are SEC QBs. We know JG is not. The only one who may be the caliber of QB to play in the SEC is HB. We have a youngster coming in next year that is supposed to be a good dual QB so Maurer and Shrout have been recruited over twice now. This season the staff needs to go ahead get JG out of their system with a Bama start and when he screws the pooch pull him and let HB take it the rest of the year. But stop the Maurer nonsense, he ain't it and he ain't got it either.
