2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

I never said there wasn't room for both. The % is very misleading as he doesn't shoot when wide open so it doesn't actually provide any spacing. He shot 32% from 3 in SEC play on 14 makes in 20 games. Evans had a learning curve coming from the OTE, but it began to click for him in the backhalf of conference play. Boswell was/is an effort defender and Evans can be just as good on that end while offering a practical offensive skillset that includes attacking the basket. Ideally, they are both back and platoon at the 3, but the point was that the staff does not just need to reach a certain quota of returning talent to hit that number and secondly, Amari Evans is the better overall investment for the program to make if it comes down to that imo

Regardless of getting some top catch and shoot threats in the portal, this team is going to have to have someone who can attack the rim. Boswell isn't doing that. Evans has shown he can and should take a big step forward with another year away from the twitch basketball league and with just naturally entering year two. Evans averaged more points, rebounds and steals in March than Boswell did. Shot it better too (Boswell shot 24% from the floor over the last eight games)
You mentioned the need for Boswell to attack the rim. I don’t disagree with you, but it’s interesting that there were times he was super aggressive. It was mainly early in the season. The Houston game comes to mind. He was attacking the rim at times when no one else would. Then it stopped.

I think he has that ability. It’s a matter of nurturing and developing an aggressive mindset in him. He did look for the 3 more often in the NCAAT, so maybe it can be done. I’ve seen guys go from tentative to aggressive gradually throughout their careers. Josh Richardson comes to mind (not that Boswell is that kind of talent).

Well let’s see…

-You also said Lanier wouldn’t hold up defensively and bet me that Tennessee team wouldn’t be Top 20 defensively, they ended the year #3

-You claimed Carey was going to ball out this year at Tennessee

-You told us that Massamba was a high level 4 star future NBA star who was a better addition to this roster than Darius Adams, who averaged 26mpg 11ppg this year at HM level

-Most recent was the take that Gillespie wasn’t a good enough athletically.

Shall I continue?
You just convinced me that Lundblade is an All American in 2027. 😉

I do think you have to guard against upending culture. I know Barnes is a more solid figure than Caldwell, but the women's team was wrecked, in part, by terrible chemistry with a roster chalked full of transfers. The team this year really meshed well together and it's a testament to this fact that two of the guys are saying "I'll be back if they have me". That's an extraordinary culture permeating the program which can be upended quickly with a swath of one-year guys with little connection or multi-years guys to sustain the ideal.

It's a shame that's what happened to the women's program but that makes total sense. It will happen more in the NIL era. It's the mentality of the athlete that has been created by society/ environment/ culture at large. It's a stark reality.

Roddy Gayle started for Michigan last year. He shot 23% from 3. They kept him on the roster.

You can’t chuck everyone to the curb

I don't think this example has anything to do with whether Boswell would play for either team. You're just throwing out a bad stat from one of their starters.

Is it though? Way more reliable, no injury history and doesn’t miss easy layups
Also jmo but I think he has way more upside
Brown missed a bunch of bunnies once we got to SEC play. All our bigs had this problem against length. Only Okpara seemed to clean this up as the season went along. Brown looks like he will be a good player. He's a high floor medium ceiling guy in my opinion. The obsession with him on this forum has gotten a little weird.

No. Its what happens when you go from one of the 3 all time greatest ever to do it to trying to replicate it. And it NEVER works. UCONN will go thru the same thing when Geno retires. Same with South Carolina.

You really don't understand why people are mega bullish on Brown long term? He was forced into action once Cade got hurt and shut it down and we solidified our big rotation.

Brown for a freshman that was expected to have a quiet year had a great year. If you are not excited about the foundation he just paved in his freshman year to build on, you must be Krampus

Here’s the deal on Tanner since it’s pretty much out there now…

Much like most athletes his camp/agents have been having talks with schools, this includes Tennessee affiliated folks and letting them know he’s not signed anything with Vanderbilt. They are also 100% going to evaluate their NBA options and if the grade is good enough then he will head to the league. Tennessee obviously would love to have him and has a massive need/fit, but so does Vanderbilt and about 99.9% of schools in the country. He did grow up wanting to play at Tennessee so that is a feather in the cap here, and I think Tennessee would present a number that absolutely is market value.

What does that all mean? No clue, I would put the odds of him on Rocky Top pretty low because a lot would have to happen, but it’s not zero either.
Historically loaded draft class with historically high NIL deals will likely push him back to college imo.

Mocks have him right at the end of the 1st round.

From what I have gathered the 25th (random end of the 1st probably too high of a pick for him) would get 1st two years guaranteed. So about 6 million guaranteed.

I'm not an NIL expert but I'd say he could get close to 6 million guaranteed in NIL deals for just one year. The year after he could probably get even more and then head to the draft with 10-15 mil already earned and then get 2 years guaranteed and be set for life.

He's a fine player but he's not a guy your gonna lean on next year. Will eventually start here or at some other power 5 school but I don't see All SEC like some. Hope I'm wrong.

We don't have to lean on him NEXT YEAR as a must have. He's going to be a 3-4 year player in college. Why are you worried about next year being a make or break for him? He should make a major step in his second season and then another leap in his junior and senior seasons. My goodness not everyone is a one and one or two year guy. Some people are going to be in college for 3-4 years playing.

If no one portals we return 9, we have 3 incoming HS freshmen...that leaves 3 spots (15 is new limit)
Hopefully at least 2 portal out (my preference would be Henderson and Massamba) so that we have 5 spots to fill with contributors. That may be wishful thinking though.

How many can we take? Has any current players announced they are entering the portal?
Probably bring in 3-5 players depending how many return. Everyone's favorite shock jock basilio this morning on blog said only locks are Brown, Phillips, and Burg. Staff want Estrella and Evans back but will be expensive and Boswell 50/50.

I think you just said what I've been saying all along. Maybe you see more top end potential is all. That's fine and I hope your right.

I'd say at least 2 portal is pretty likely.

I'm not going to make any guesses, but with Gainey taking over at NC State it seems more likely. We always seem to have a player or two follow assistants.

Well I just see he's going to be here for 3-4 years ideally. And Barnes has done a wonderful job being able to develop a big man who stays healthy with multiple years of playing for him.

I have no reason to think Brown isn't going to be a beast as he gets a 2nd and 3rd season in the S&C program while getting major minutes.

New stretch big...

Drew Fielder, C - 6'11", Boise State: 1 year left, 95 games played 2 seasons at Georgetown then 1 at Boise. 14.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, shot 54.7% FG, 40.9% 3PT (with 3 attempts a game) and 78.5% FT

Honestly, I love the one @TheMookieMonster posted last night.

G: Tyler Tanner
G: Wilkinson OR Money
G: Lundblade
F: Estrella
C: Okpara Replacement

(I think he had Estrella at C, but it doesn’t matter, either or works)
I would like to add Andrew McKeever (Saint Mary's 7'3 dude) as the Okpara replacement if we are getting silly.
