2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Some clarity on numbers from VQ, one of our walk on’s won’t could against this year because they were DSA’d last year, so 16 is our number with the 2 walk on’s (Paul & Campbell).

We currently sit at 11/16…

Brown
Burg
Henderson
Ames
Lundblade
Rubin
Scott
Green
Clark
Paul
Campbell

If you add in Haralson and Washington that becomes 13/16, so still room potentially for up to at least 3 more. Potential for Burg to depart but Massamba return, sounds like only 1 of those guys will have a spot regardless, but we’ll see.

Designated Student-Athlete for anyone wondering, they don't count towards roster cap and the status follows them wherever they go until they complete their college eligibility.

I guess they’ve dropped the pretense that the scholarship players are student athletes such that we now have designated student-athletes

Did anything ever progress with Najai Hines? Seemed like we had a zoom call then crickets

Hines is from NJ and from all accounts wants to remain in the Big East...

Reads like waiting to see if St. John's, UConn, Villanova, or maybe Providence... of course I'm not sure why he'd leave Seton Hall to go to some of the other Big East schools. He might hop conferences, but looks like he wants to be near NJ

It was a one time allowance to prevent walk-ons from being discarded when the scholarship cap rose.

Basically all teams had to submit their DSA, certain requirements existed for a walk-on to be eligible to become a DSA. No one moving forward can be made a DSA though (as of now).

I'm more interested in what he shot in those games and how many fouls he forced. Points scored is often such a misleading total, and I'm not just saying that because of Bam Adebayo. It's a good sign that Haralson didn't disappear against top competition, but there's usually more to the story.
I just now watched Haralson's highlights for this year. First of all, he was just a freshman. He is very good near the basket - at shooting and passing. As a matter of fact, he often was the inbounder. He still needs work on his 3 point shooting, but I think he did much better near the end of the season. Could probably use a lot of help with his form though.

He and Juke are still young - Juke was a sophmore, I believe. So, there's probably some room for improvement.

Would love to have both. I think they both have proven that they can excel against good competition.

Oh, I definitely want both. I have no idea how likely that is, but I'm a firm believer in "MOAR! MOAAAAAAAR!!!"

Biggest knock on Jalen isn't even his fault really. I don't think he's a bad shooter, but he was clearly the drive & dish guy on that team.

Shrewsberry took 10 shots a game, 7 were from 3 and he hit 40%
Certa took 9.7 shots a game, 7 were from 3 and he hit 36.7%
Burton took 13.3 shots a game, and 3.6 were from 3 where he hit 30.6%

Then you had Frost & Koehler both taking about 2 from deep a game at 38% as well as Imes taking 2.5 at 32.5%

Seems like the role Jalen took on allowed him to start/play a ton as a freshmen because he was the main threat to drive to the rim and get shots or fouled. He lead the team in 2 point attempts with 10.2 a game, and lead the team with FTAs with 6.7

I kinda hope we only get one and save some money to get a starting center.

That's totally fair. I'm kinda weird about these things. I prefer to be a bit taller everywhere else and don't worry as much about a seven-foot center. Like, someone here the other day was dismissing a shooting guard for being 6-7. I was thinking, "I wish he was 6-8, but that'll do." Nate Ament and Zaccarie Risacher are stylistically my dream small forwards due to their height/length. I used to play an online game called SimHoops/DriveTheLane, and anybody under 6-4 couldn't play PG for me. My preference was 6-6. My wife was the opposite. She'd always have four seven-footers.

I would argue we need a starting center. Someone like Thiam or Anton Bonke.

Thiam: 12.8ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.6bpg, 52.5% FG, 28.8% 3PT
Bonke: 10.6ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.5bpg, 57.6% FG, 34.2% 3PT

Rubin: 11.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 2.3bpg, 2.3apg, 58.5% FG

Other than them being 7'+ and shooting 3s I'm not seeing why people think Rubin can't also start. Thiam was in the Big 12 at least.

I thought this also, but then I looked at past lineups and most of our good Barnes teams have only rotated 3 guys in the post.

And one of them was often Josiah Jordan James, who is only 6-6 and not a traditional big.

If we land Haralson we may be done in the interior and just looking for perimeter players.

Yeah I agree. I’m fine with Rubin / Brown combo.

With all the potential shooters on the team, that will take some defense off those two and create easier baskets.

If you have Tanner, Dai Dai, Hill Jr, Lundblade, Juke, Haralson, etc. we don’t need Shaq at Center.

Agree, fine taking a true depth piece just to guard against the rare occasions where both Rubin and Brown find themselves in foul trouble.

We also switch too much to have a traditional Shaq...one reason I think Carey and JP were both in the portal. We obviously had the $$$ to keep both if we wanted, but only Felix was really capable of switching to defend outside the paint.

I know he’s not officially a target, but a few people have brought up his potential as a PG target if the mystery candidate never enters.
