I for one would be really happy with Aimes. Have a guard who actually would want to try and score. And seems like it could spell some PG play as well. I want multiple guards that are actually capable of dribbling and willing to actually want to score

Aimes is phenomenal if he's a secondary scoring option and ball handler. If he's the lead at either, not so much.

Exactly. How many times in game threads were people complaining about not having enough ball handlers? Now we are looking at one who just so happens to be a pretty efficient scorer in a P4 conference, and so many in here are like "meh".

Why do we always think there’s some secret ace in the hole guy we’re going to get that nobody knows about? It happens every portal season in every sport. It’s like a mini Gruden cycle every year, and it never materializes. If we were in consideration for “big game” guys, I think that would have leaked out just like the rest of these names.

A guy who can average 17 a game in a major conference at decent efficiency even though he’s on a bad team is a welcome addition.

Plus, he looks like a combo guard to me, and that versatility can be really valuable, depending on how this roster ends up being constructed

Agreed @cncchris33 def wouldn't turn him away but would love someone in the 6'5ish or more range in that position.

I understand Clark and Gainey are no longer here, and they deserve a lot of credit for recruiting some of our top guys the past few years…

But still. I’ll be shocked if we don’t end up having another elite guy on the roster again this year. Whether or not we know he is elite when he signs or not.

He’s a combo guard, he’s played both on ball and off ball at various times

OK, watched some film on Ames. I'm convinced. He does the kinds of things no one at that position could for us this year. Gets to the rim, handles the ball extremely well (remarkably low TO #s for as much and the way he handles the ball), he plays bigger than his size (fades on his midrange to create separation and is strong and crafty in traffic), handles the ball well with both hands.

Sign me up.

If TN can bring in Lundblade, Ames, Dowd, and Rubin, that looks great to round out the class. Need a stud PG and one more elite guard/wing or big, with the other wing/big being "B tier" but solid like the rest of the recruits. Seven transfers and that team looks insane - sign me up.

FWIW this was Dai Dai Ames & Jeremiah Wilkinson…thought the perception contrast was funny, many of the same ones whining about Ames have been lobbying for a bucket getter like Wilkinson.
