2026 Transfer Portal Thread

Wow - if you’re right and there’s folks questioning paying JP $1 million? This current $NIL doesn’t seem sustainable.
Yeah, that was the spirit in my earlier reply about people overestimating the value of $1 mil in this current environment. Lots of kids you'd never believe will be getting that much, next year and it just keeps growing exponentially. As you said, they will soon price themselves out of the market without some guardrails like collective bargaining, salary cap, etc.

A best case hope is probably a guy like that I have posted in my OP, Lazerek Houston…D2 guy who was a prolific scorer this year as a freshman, not gonna command money likely a proven D1 guy, maybe he hits and maybe he doesn’t, but likely to cost a whole lot less than a Rice or Wilkinson. If you could add those 3: Foxwell, Houston & Lundblade along with a rim protector you’re potentially cooking, adding a bunch of offensive firepower.
Just curious, which is your preference; Rice or Lundblade? I can make a case for either, probably.

Okay I think the poster is thinking of Myles. Pretty sure he ended up with a leg injury.
I meant Rodney and mixed up his ligament injury. Point the same, I personally would be a little hesitant overspending on guy coming off season ending injury expecting them to be leading scorer. That's just me though.

I definitely agree with you. Not sure if I want to take a risk on someone that might not be the same type scorer.

Then my question about Lundblade is he a good enough athlete (haven’t watched any film)

Nah, although I see the Australian connection. His brother plays in the Australian league and is committed to LSU although he doesn't have a recruiting profile.

OK, that's what I was wondering. Thanks! Didn't realize he was committed to them, so the other Aussie is just a coincidence...lol

Let's do a little projecting, though. Suppose McMahon gets canned. He's from Oak Ridge. Let's also suppose that Justin Gainey gets that elusive HC job he has been wanting somewhere. Does McMahon to Tennessee make any sense, then? Does it help secure the Foxwell brothers? This season in basketball is always so fascinating.

Maybe take a look at Ryan Blount from Tampa in Div II. He entered the portal a couple weeks ago. He was the DII National player of the week a couple of times this season. He's 6'6 and a sophomore that averaged 21 a game this season after averaging 11 as a freshman. He's shot 41 percent from 3 two straight seasons.

Foxwell/Boswell
Rice or Lundblade/Henderson
Evans/D2 scorer/Scott or Green
JP/Cade/Brown
Mystery D1 C

Really not a bad place to start and I’m sure there’s gonna be some other big names we’re linked with as always and won’t end up with everyone above. Really like the returning core we’re (hopefully) gonna have with Boswell, Evans, and the frontcourt, regardless of how the portal plays out. All guys with big game experience that will have multiple years in the system.

I think it’s Rice by a wide margin, but without knowing price tags that’s an easier case to be made…we know Rice can do it at this level and be all conference, we’ve seen guys from Belmont take a year or two and struggle, no doubt Rice would be the more sure thing imo, but also imagine him costing nearly double.

I wonder what the odds are that Henderson/Burg/Massamba are here next season.

Ideally, I would like us to return 1 of the 3 so we have the scholarships for the portal. With the 3 freshman coming in it seems like overkill for them all to return but with so many moving parts who even knows what will happen

I wonder if the shoulder injury knocks his price down at all?

I'd rather have Lundblade and use the $ savings to get the best PG we can get. We only have so much money to go around and I'll be pissed if Rice burns us 2 years in a row. If we could get, say, Tanner and Lundblade? That seems like a home run to me. Still have Boswell coming off the bench. Evans becomes your starting 3. We still have to nail down our posts, but that would seemingly put us in much better position next year than this past year.

Usually it is a staff member that has connections overseas. And then once you start building that relationship, get guys who are comfortable being around players with similar backgrounds, and those guys succeed, it is a selling point to future overseas guys. Chain reaction.

The Big 10 school you are thinking of is actually likely Illinois. Both Ivisic brothers, Stojacovic, Mirkovich, among others. Geoff Alexander is their assistant coach with all the connections in Europe.
Thanks. Unlike some, you rarely attack others. Even for having a different opinion.
I get some of my TN info from a Spyre employee, but I try not to discuss TN - inside info every time we speak.
