2026 Midterm Thread

If this is a Democratic Party shutdown ..... then it shouldn't impact Trump's approval ratings. However, he is currently 7 points underwater in a right-wing friendly poll :

Rasmussen Reports

Donald Trump Job Approval

Approve .............. 46%
Disapprove ......... 53%
The Democrats have said that they are using this as leverage because this is the one thing they can do. They own the shutdown. However, the Trump admin deserves just as much criticism because they think it will be more damaging to the D’s so they are unwilling to do their job. Trump should be holding meetings with both sides trying to bring them together , but instead he is being his usual petulant self and the polls are showing it.

Well, I guess that solves it.

Define expansion?

Ice being used and National Guard deployed?
those weren't the first things coming to my mind. I think there is room to discuss those though.

What I was thinking about was the border wall from his first term and tariffs in his current term.

Those same articles existed after Obama and Biden won. Republicans will never win again! The party is dead!

Stupid then and stupid now about Dems.
Speaking of Obama, The Rs also won huge in the 2010 midterms of Obama's first term. It was a referendum against his policies blah blah blah. The Rs are back and Obama is in serious trouble. He easily won reelection 2 years later.

The tariff thing has been used by presidents becire. How effect it is in 2025 I can’t honestly say. Trade is so different from even 50 years ago. One economist will praise it and can be sited by the right and another will condemn it and be used by the left. We definitely have a trade issue and it caused major problems and has created Chinas economy basically.

Personally I would tackle manufacturing a different way and remove the employer tax requirement on certain classes to help compete so that thr higher wages are someone lessened but would that be enough I honestly don’t think so. The issue comes down to stock companies that A have to maximize profit and B sell to a consumer nation. I am still on the fence regarding tariffs.

The wall? Meaningless without stronger immigration laws that are held up in lower courts.

Really not for NG being deployed. Should be dealt with by local law enforcement. Issue is local law enforcement in Chicago and Memphis can’t due to local officials.

We live in a society now that really is so damn polarized that the options are crap.

Texas redistricts. Cali then counters. Now Ohio too. And every time the middle is left out more and more.

what happen yesterday was expected...blue state idiots elected idiots.

Someone on X put what is happening this way.....the south lost to the north in the Civil war but the south is beating the crap out of the north in economic war.....people from blue states flocking to red states. NYC just shot itself in in own foot.
Virginia has a Republican governor..Virginia is a good litmus test for judging Americans feelings towards whatever administration is in the WH.

No, I don’t believe VA is a good litmus test. I posted the county map of how VA voted Tuesday, take out a couple counties around DC that are infested with government employees and the election goes the other way.

The red counties, especially for Sears, went -6 to -8 where they were in 2021 state election....

Math was all but impossible for Rs when counties that normally vote 75%R ended up voting 68-70%R

My point still stands, take out the DC adjacent counties and their ilk and VA becomes a much better place to live.

Nah man he was. Just like every insane word that comes out of Trumps mouth is trolling.

Well, I would say the trolling is an effective tool for us to identify the insane. The insane can't resist.

For the most part, it seems like life is somewhat trying to return to normal.

I actually recommend the people upset about the Orange man's comments to speak loud and clear so we can identify them faster and clearer.

Virginia does not have secure elections. No picture id required. Unsecured mail in voting. Scatted drop boxes. 45 days to cheat voting season. It's bad here.

46% is still massively better than Biden had at any point in the last 2.5 years of his presidency.

That used to be case, but not anymore. VA hasn't voted Red for POTUS since GW's 2nd term. And the last 2 times VA has voted in a R Governor, the President was a Dem.

GA and NC are for more predictive at this point.
