2026 Midterm Thread

the issue was Trumps rating before gov't shutdown first part of October.
If this is a Democratic Party shutdown ..... then it shouldn't impact Trump's approval ratings. However, he is currently 7 points underwater in a right-wing friendly poll :

Rasmussen Reports

Donald Trump Job Approval

Approve .............. 46%
Disapprove ......... 53%

I'm not saying that isn't going to happen, but I don't consider NY, NJ, VA, and CA competitive areas for the R's
They're not .... but will the Republican base turn out in strong numbers for an election cycle when Trump is not on the ballot? It's a fair question, because they didn't in 2018, 2022 or yesterday. Sherill was supposed to win a close race in NJ last night, but Republican turnout was low, and so it became a 13 point rout.

That is ignorant.

New York has 7 Republicans in the House of Representatives, and it is deep blue.
Illinois has 3 Republicans in the House.

And the last mid-term elections were supposed to be a red wave. Republicans gained a grand total of 9 seats in the House and lost Governor's elections in purple states.

The New Jersey Governor's race was supposed to be close last night. Sherrill won by 13 points.

On top of being ignorant and delusional. You are doing a lot of wishful thinking. Democrats have plenty of room to counter gerrymandering by the right.
wishful thinking? lmao

you can barely cope…always so angry and bitter.

I'll ask a question in reply. I align with the following from your list:
lower taxes
personal freedom

I consider 'secure borders' to be a PR term.

I am anti abortion personally but don't think it is smart policy for the entire population.

Am I conservative or moderate?
You sound like someone who waffles back and forth. I expect you like to jump on what's popular. I say this because of the 'secure borders' issue. For me, that's a clear issue. Anyone coming here should follow OUR laws. No gray area. Also, abortion. I don't like it and won't vote to support it. You don't seem to understand that R v. W was bad law and it needed to be addressed. Now it is a function of the state as it should be. Overturning a bad law didn't outlaw abortion. Perhaps your state did, but it was never a federal issue.

Now are you conservative or moderate? Well I call myself a southerner. When I go to Florida, they disagree with me on that. I will say that you are somewhere between a communist on the far left that wants to burn everything down, and a far right anarchist that wants nothing to do with anything or anyone. Somewhere in between.

I didn't even know that they had elections yesterday. Looking at it it looks as though the D's maintained what they already had and gained some lower level positions. If you see yesterday’s election results as a referendum good for ya, but I don't.
PA chose to keep the state Supreme Court with a liberal majority, largely to protect reproductive rights from perceived conservative infringement.

Referendum, sampling, canary-in-the-coal mine… call it whatever you please, it’s a snapshot in time that gives us clues about how Americans feel about the state of the country.

Interesting. You have a very different perspective than others. Certainly not how I describe myself.
Perhaps you are not good at assessment or inference?

Well you gave very little information about yourself and your asking people to describe you? Comon man. You know you set a mine field for someone. It would be impossible to determine what you hear, eat, like, or believe based on that. Now you will get a response from the knee jerk crowd. They need very little information to judge you.

I don’t disagree and I hope they don’t. 1 party controlling the White House and congress has rarely benefited the people.

That's fair. Most of those who replied have interacted with me over the course of months or years. They have a better handle on where I stand. I am not sure you and I interact that much.

I don't see how my opinion about 'secure borders' is illustrative to you, though.

It's not. My whole point was that you ask me to describe you with almost zero information. People are way more complicated than that. Anything that I would have said would probably been wrong.

what is a good time for 5K?
Running is not a good exercise when you get older. Everybody I know that did a lot of running eventually had to stop because of hip, back, knee, leg, ankle or foot problems. It's really hard on the joints and once you are past about 30, those joints don't rejuvenate like they use to. Do something like low impact. Ride a bike or use an elliptical machine. You will be glad you did once you get older. If you want some motivation, go sit in the hospital orthopedic waiting room for a while. The sights will encourage you greatly.

Schumer did shut the gov't down but Reps get the blame because that is how the leftist media spins it. Even Trump understands that....

Eric Daugherty:
"President Trump reportedly got TOUGH with Senate Republicans behind close doors this morning, saying the GOP will become a "DEAD PARTY" if they don't nuke the filibuster.

Sen. Lindsey Graham reportedly told Trump that budget reconciliation can be used to pass good legislation, to which Trump said, "you and I BOTH know that there’s so much you can’t do with reconciliation," per Punchbowl.

DJT is also concerned the shutdown has NEGATIVELY impacted Republicans more than it has Democrats, and that it reflected in stronger DEM turnout in the elections."
