Mia was playing very well from Dec until the Feb. 8 - SC (concussion game) averaging around 15pt a game. Last 6 games after the concussion were not very good. Not sure if she can stay healthy in the physically demanding SEC.So who could Esmeralda be a replacement for who did we have she might offer more than they did? Mya Pauldo, Wynn, Wolfenbarger, maybe even Robertson are all good choices that she would out perform one of what they did on the court.
Some of these players that have left or graduated were just really bad performers on the court. Look at their stats for the season.
The huge damage thus far is Cooper. Barker was a senior. Civil will be damaging if she leaves. Edwards would really be a setback. Other than those players not much was offered by anyone else on the court.
Yes I think Mia is a far more talented player than her sister Mya. I think Esmeralda easily replaces anything we were getting out of Mya. Don't think that is true of Mia who I think will get better every year and will probably be playing in a conference less physical.Mia was playing very well from Dec until the Feb. 8 - SC (concussion game) averaging around 15pt a game. If the LVs land Esmeralda, I hope she matches or surpasses Mia's production. GBO.Yes I think Mia is a far more talented player than her sister Mya. I remember last year when people were saying that the new recruits would easily replace Tess, Jill, Jewel, Sara, Sam. I hope these new players do manage to live up to their preseason billing, or they’ll be as maligned as this group was.Yes I think Mia is a far more talented player than her sister Mya. Rankings didn't matter cause that was what it was based on. Three were top 20 and the other two were either top 50 or close. So it seemed logical that the people who rank these players knew what they were doing. Evidently they didn't or they just didn't receive the coaching or understanding of their role on the team that they needed.I remember last year when people were saying that the new recruits would easily replace Tess, Jill, Jewel, Sara, Sam. We’ll definitely get the answer to that last part next year. If someone like the JUCO player is expected to help fill out the roster, then I can see that role for her. She could surprise, but apparently, every other P4 coach and even the best mid majors have missed the memo on her. Shannon and Alberta did well, but they were also surrounded by a GOAT type player in Candace, an all rookie and All Star Selection in Anosike, and one of the best defensive players ever in our program in Hornbuckle.Rankings didn't matter cause that was what it was based on. The three things about her system that are huge negatives players really have no role, shooting is a free for all, from anywhere on the court. Post players shooting three and guards trying to guard a post. Subbing five for five has to be confusing to any player. Everybody has to know whose place they are taking and who they are supposed to be guarding. Sometimes the mis matches are evident. We’ll definitely get the answer to that last part next year. I think the lack of defined role is a big part of it. Barnes is a master at defining roles and getting players to buy into it, which is why he is a HOF. Other top coaches in the women’s game also are very good at it. Someone referred to the players as widgets in her system. They’re all interchangeable and that leads to a lack of defined roles, a sense of identity, and sometimes a “me first type“ team. The three things about her system that are huge negatives players really have no role, shooting is a free for all, from anywhere on the court. So free for all shooting.
No specific role
Unusual subbing and confusion
It must take a lot of energy to pull that much fiction out of one’s cloaca. The transfer portal is jumping. If Coach Caldwell has to sign her entire team from the transfer portal I’ll be 100% locked in. The only players that even seem to have some sort of loyalty to Tennessee are Gabby Minus and Jaida Civil. Neither have said anything to slight the program or Coach Caldwell. Nor have they worshipped a recruiting coordinator.
Even if those two players entered the portal I could 100% support them in hopefully finding the right place and fit for their career.
The way Coach Caldwell was done by these former players and coaches is about the worse sign of dignity, integrity, and professionalism I’ve seen from coaches & student athletes.
I don’t mind Juco that much. She can shoot it which we need but she will need conditioning to try to improve her quickness. We’ll definitely get the answer to that last part next year.
