I watch US, the occasional late-night West Coast game, and videos of several high school prospects. Not much else.

But, Janiah Barker! I've watched her. How can you not? She is as good as any, portal or otherwise. Just her make up - her build and balance grants her the ability to gain position and clear space without fouling. She has the range, the turnaround, the pull-up, the slash, and court-length handles. She can defend from perimeter to net. Of course, you already know this.

Is she somewhat enigmatic? One could logically presume her a consistent double-double, and yet, she played off the bench at UCLA. Which she parlayed into the Big 10 Sixth Player of the Year award. Which speaks to her character and maturity, right?

And yet, here she is in the portal again.

My observation of Janiah over the years is she has talent and ability in the zip code of Coop but so far has had mindset and maturity somewhere south of almost everyone. She and Coop would be quite the combo, crazy ability but they'd need to give out mood rings instead of tshirts to fans. Maybe they'd be good for each other.

That said, I can't believe the LV coaching staff would go anywhere near JB if they weren't completely reassured she was bought in totally to program, system, conditioning, and discipline. I don't think for a minute CKC would sacrifice fit for talent. If anything I'd think its opposite. So if we sign JB, until/unless I see otherwise, I'm going to think those issues are put to rest.

Could be its dawned on JB that this year is her last rodeo and she needs to show the W she can play nice. I hope it works out for her, and for us.

She and Zee could hold down the center spot, but I would also like to pick up another stretch 4 to pair with Latham. Prawl might be able to fill that role for us at 6' 2". She seems like she is built solidly enough to rebound and she can also shoot from outside. Civil looks like she can hit the boards as well.

But we are running a positionless system so it is really a case of having enough of the right sort of bodies to put on the other team when it is needed. For instance if a big post is beating you up you need a big post to counter them sometimes.

The talent is there not only strong on the boards and getting to the basket. She can shoot the three at a very good percentage for a 6'4" player. Highly ranked coming out of high school. Had some injuries and the coaches she decided to play with underused her JMO.
