2025 Transfer Portal

Holly won multiple SEC Championships. Kellie went to the Sweet 16 twice. They were both P4 coaches. Period.

You can point to how both tenures ended or discount what they did from a lack of longevity. But to say they weren’t legitimately P4 coaches is intellectually dishonest.
Got him blocked. But by reading your comment. I’m going with he’s mad because neither Holly nor Kellie never called him to help coach so they aren’t legit.

Speaking on our name???

As part of the terms of the House settlement, scholarship limits go away for next year, and it becomes a roster spot limit, which will be 15 for women’s basketball. You have the ability to place all players on your roster on scholarship, which Tennessee intends to do, Since women’s basketball already had 15 scholarships.

The judge in the case indicated that she was uncomfortable with so many current walkons losing their spots to roster limits in sports like football, swimming and track where there are currently significantly more student athletes than the future roster limit. There is a thought that the final settlement will include a grandfather period, where those athletes will be allowed to remain on a roster, but not on the scholarship until their careers have concluded.

However, the current expectation is that will not apply to sports like basketball, where the average roster size is the same or fewer than the future roster limit. Which means, if Darby stays on the roster, she will count against the limit and will likely be on scholarship. If they end up signing additional transfers that put them at or above 15, she will be given the opportunity to stay with the program to finish her degree.
I tend to think most programs will shrink their rosters to 11-12 in the next few years because it gives them more NIL to use to get top players.

I thought she was rumored to have visted Wednesday. It is supposed to be two different visitors this weekend.
Ah OK. Thanks for the clarification.

It seems like Texas may have a lead on Judd though. Is that your understanding as well?

Hard to say which direction we will go in now. Looks like we were trying to find a 6'1 to 6'3 player that can shoot the three. Started with Todd and Judd have no idea which player left fits that description. Top ten players left are Kneepkens, Fulwiley, and Barker. Just outside that group is Sidberry, or a player like Dayana Mendes just a freshman who looks to have a lot of potential. Could be some late entrants only three days to go before portal closes.

Thanks for all of this. I'll add just a couple of details.
1. The judge cannot dictate what is in the final settlement. She can, however, guide the parties to add or subtract provisions so that what they submit will likely gain her approval.
2. While the process is seeming to be nearing a final resolution, there is no guaranteed end date.
Whatever is finally agreed by the parties, submitted to and eventually approved by the judge may all be wrapped up before the next seasons (multiple sports) begin. Or not.

Here is some more news on roster limits:

In an order issued prior to last week’s hearing, Wilken specified that she “cannot order changes to the agreement."

During last week’s hearing, though, Wilken specifically said about roster limits: “My idea is … grandfathering." (That is, allowing current athletes to keep their roster spots.) "It's not that many people. It's not that much money." She added that it would be a "goodwill" move that would resolve a lot of "sturm und drang."

However, in the new filing, the principals wrote:

"The Parties appreciate the perspective and heartfelt stories that the student-athletes who objected shared, including those shared at the hearing. Defendants have evaluated — and discussed with numerous member institutions — the Court’s suggestion to 'grandfather' in the roster limits. Defendants, however, have informed (the plaintiffs' lawayers) that those discussions revealed no practicable way to do so, because 'grandfathering' roster limits would cause significant disruption. The Parties are both independently aware that member institutions and student-athletes have been making decisions in anticipation of the roster limits being immediately effective if the Settlement is approved."

Although roster limits received no attention during the preliminary-approval hearing, the principals noted that written objections were made about that aspect of the settlement prior to that hearing, and Wilken granted preliminary approval. House vs. NCAA settlement gets possible revisions, but not on roster limits

The principals also contend that courts have "recognized the ability of sports organizations to have reasonable rules regulating their sports, which includes roster sizes."

In addition, they said, the imposition of roster limits being acccompanied by the elimination of scholarship limits, creates a setup "under which more student-athletes can receive athletic aid" and "is a move towards a less restrained market — the stated goal of the antitrust lawsuits the Parties have settled."

Here is some more news on roster limits:
The most amazing aspect of this “new round” of legal wrangling involving the courts is the NCAA has always been chock a block full of highly qualified legal minds. Only when forced by the Supreme Court did they drop the facade of amateurism.

More on NCAA vs House. and roster limits:

Judge Wilken identified the regulations around added compensation from NIL collectives — separate from the back pay and revenue-sharing figures — and the proposed elimination of scholarship limits as parts of the settlement that are most “problematic.”

Several objectors also made arguments against the proposed elimination of scholarship limits and new limits on total roster sizes. Should the settlement earn final approval in its current form, at least 4,739 total roster spots across all Division I sponsored sports could be lost, ESPN reported in November. U.S. district judge wants to hear more testimony in House v. NCAA settlement

At multiple points during the hearing, Judge Wilken suggested the settlement could be amended to allow for new scholarship and roster rules to be phased in gradually, and current athletes could be “grandfathered in” while their programs catch up to the new rules.
In the latest filings, both parties declined to heed Judge Wilken's guidance on grandfathering. She decided NOT to accept the agreement without further study.

Key Issues Highlighted by Judge Wilken:

  1. Grandfathering Current Athletes and Scholarship Limits: One of the most significant concerns acknowledged by Judge Wilken was the potential impact of the settlement on current student-athletes who may lose their roster spots as a result of changes to scholarship structures under the settlement’s terms. Many objectors had voiced concerns with this aspect of the settlement. Judge Wilken noted that many athletes likely chose their institutions with the expectation of continuing to compete in their respective sports. She expressed that it would be unfair for these athletes to face the prospect of losing their scholarships due to roster limitations introduced by the settlement. In light of this, Judge Wilken suggested that these athletes should be “grandfathered in” and allowed to maintain their scholarships, which would prevent them from being disadvantaged by the new restrictions. She emphasized that the number of athletes affected would be relatively small and that such a move would likely generate goodwill among both athletes and the public. While the NCAA’s attorney pushed back on this, Judge Wilken urged the parties to discuss this option further with the NCAA, signaling that this issue may need to be resolved before final approval. I beginning to think we don’t have anyone portal players lined up for commitments or any visitors. Who’s is left that fits CKC system that’s not committed as of now or are we done ( hope not)
Next ten days should tell not a lot of the current top rated players left in the portal. Some others could get in, but starting to empty the top names. Seems were only interested in players over six foot tall that can also shoot the three.

I’m sure we’ll fill out the roster with the players left over, but they won’t be any type of impact players, I think it’s best to hope we get the top players in the 2026 class and the portal,
